@NOCMAN…. and everyone else that gets this question. Pay attention. Its asking for the bandwith of the serial link (The Internet connection NOT the LAN connection). The 100000k was the speed of the Fastethernet link. You need to switch to the serial link and do a show inter seri…. You will then find the correct speed.

    Q.1
The router was showing 100000 Kbits/Sec
    and the options were:
    a) 128 Kbits
    b) 256 kbit
    c) 512 kbits
    d) 1.544 kbit it was like that, what is the right answer and why, or how we can calculate it

  2. Joe Mendola
    January 7th, 2012

    @kland
you have to remember the PCM !

    DSO 64kbps
    DS1 1.54Mbps
    DS3 44.73Mbps
    E1 2.048Mbps

    the right one is d) 1544kbps ! (= 1.54Mbps); for exclusion

PS 1.544kbps does not exist ! if you put the dot, you are considering Mega bit per seconds!

  3. Joe Mendola
    January 7th, 2012

and you have to consider that 1544kbps is also the DEFAULT one on serial connection !
so you should have been chosing it not only for exclusion, but also because that value normally is the default one you find on serial con.

    DEFAULT = 1544kbps
    a) 128 <—no PCM, this is wrong
    b) 256 <–no PCM, this is wrong
    c) 512 <–no PCM, this is wrong
    d) 1544 <–yes PCM, this is true

Hey guys passed two days ago pass score of 923/1000 needed 825 on the 300/1000 scale and all that.

Got the security sim same questions as the one featured here and banner was a basis for most answers. also show commands sim very different than the one shown here but same principle, also got Implementation SIM exactly the same.

I also had at least 3 questions on rip and its operation. 3 questions on wireless and one specifically asking about wireless w std cant really remember. 10 ish questions based on subnetting and their ranges, correct overlaps and how to use the command used to set/modify ip address etc.

4 questions on telnet config ie set password and which will be used if set, 1 question on hyperterminal config/9600bps

Half the wan questions from here came up, identical as described here. 3/4 drag and drops specially DORA, ip command config for interface, ping arp -a drag and drop and the database/collaboration.

    Studied with:
Odom ICND1 Book (read all cover to cover very well put together sample questions totally unrealistic for exam, 2/3 sub questions on occasion in some questions )
Todd Lamle CCNA book (probably read 5% good book great info it just didnt hold my interest)
Chris Bryant (thebryantadvantage.com) (the bare min you need to know you will not pass with this alone)
CBT nuggest (Also very good, jeremy can go off on tangents but get there again you will not pass with this alone)
Dumps (testking and Xallax for $5 invaluable)
last week before exam exam cram for condensing knowledge (some areas this provides all information needed to pass, other not so much) Helps tell you if you know the material or not
Packet tracer probably used it for 2-3 hours to test running commands and using the interface helpful def but not essential (THIS IS ONLY IN MY OPINION OTHER MAY FIND IT INVALUABLE!!!!!!)

The only thing i bought for the test was xallax vce, everything else i found on the internet. WARNING if you are doing the test for the right reasons you will not have a problem with the material for the ICND1 and you will easily pass, however if you are only doing it for the resume and studying the dumps you will be under alot more pressure but it is possible to still pass

  16. Ali

    hi to all
the exam icnd1was difficult, there was some questions very new and not recognize ;some
questions have been changed, my tip is to be prepped very well with this 3 steps
1)read about all the issue in the mitereal like what is tcp, dsl, security in router ,pstn, know ports,
subnetting :u must be googd ,know what is private ip and so on
2)know to configure very good ,know the commands how to get output from the router
3)make tests but know this the changin the style of the question example :
i had a question that was writing as sentence-and the opposite the question to drag$drop
and because of some questions like this i failed got 775
another thing i was late in 30 minutes because i couldn’t find a parking this situation killed my exam ,i was very angry and in a lot of stress ,this took all my focus
so don’t come to your exam like that this is a mistaken and probably u will fail,i know that if i was in focus i was passing the exam with my eyes closed.i wish u all successive in yours exam.and i,m going again next week.

    Hi,

Many thanks to 9tut, it helped a lot. Passed this morning with 850. I used the following:
    Wendell Odom Cert Guide
    Exam Cram by Michael Valentine
    Packet Tracer
    9tut

ps I got 100% in the security and did not select banner as a security threat. I also got the 1st sim listed here, little different but much the same.
pps I thought the Boson questions on the CD in Odom were tougher than exam, thankfully : )

    January 17th, 2012

    Hi,

Passed this morning, 0% for the Wan section, 899 passing score.

Even if my score is not brillant…, i didn’t find it was too difficult, maybe because i spend some time on :

    -Cisco Press ICDN1 Wwendel
    -CBT Nuggets videos
    -Boson sim
    -9tut
    -Packet tracer labs
    -various dumps

English s not my mother tongue so I had 30m of extra time and i did it in less than 60m without rushing up.I’ve studied during 3 weeks.

Sims were the same that 9tut.

Make sure you understand all the concept before passing the exam !

  26. Kevester
    January 17th, 2012

    Hi Vanessa,
Basically in any question I was what are the potential security issues, I did not select the ‘banner’ as an option, rather I selected the answers such as weak password such as cisco or using telnet rather than ssh, hope this helps

  27. Plopi
    January 17th, 2012

    Hi vanessa,

I did the same thing as Kevester and I also got 100% in security.

  28. Joe Mendola
    January 17th, 2012

@Vanessa it depends on YOUR specific exam! as you can read in the topic thats talks about security, there is also a casa in which a guy( ricardo ) chose the banner’s message as threat and he got 100% ( indeed you can find on several books that banners are used as detterent ! ).
Read the scerutiy testlet section: 9tut, xallax and me wrote plenty things about it. There is not an unique solution, but at least now, we have enough infos that can help you analyze YOUR case and choose the right answers ( for example i chose the unsecure http server message as threat and i got 100%: this means they like changing the security simulation on each candidate, as it should always have done ! )

    January 21st, 2012

Passed today ICND1. Had a few SIMS from 9tut, and 2 drag and drops that were new. 1 was about WAN connection (ATM, Frame Relay, ? ?), and the other was protocols (FTP, TFTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP) matching descriptions. There was one questions that I think was wrong on the exam, and I wrote a comment on it. Question was:

Given network 192.168.4.0/26, select 2 possible Host IPs that are within the same subnet
    192.168.4.76
    192.168.4.61
    192.168.4.63
    192.168.4.(something in the 200’s)
    192.168.4.(something in the 100’s)

I went with .61 and .63 even though that can’t possibly be right, since the only host IP’s can be .1-.62

Oh hey, a question on my ICND1 exam was “Which one is a routed protocol?” Choices were IGRP, IP, RIP, HTTP, and a couple of others. What is the answer? And what is the difference between a “routing protocol” and a “routed protocol”.

  40. ccnanewbe
    January 23rd, 2012

    routed protocol is IP,IPX
    routing protocol is RIP,IGRP,OSPF,BGP
not sure of the explanation for the difference

Passed ICND1 today with score of 874. The exam was not hard, but the time was not enough for me. I had to answer the last 6 questions with less than one minute. a lot of the questions were from this site. I used the following to prepare for the exam:

    1) CBTnuggets videos
    2) 9tut.net
    3) dumps by Calvomak

I spent two weeks studying by spending three hours daily. Most of the help and preparation for the test came from this site. I went over all the question posted here and the discussion were as important on here. thank you so much 9tut for the materials.

The dumps I used from Calvomak were also helpful and most of the question on this site were also on the dump as well as on the test. Here is the link: http://www.examcollection.com/cisco/Cisco.Prepking.640-822.v2011-11-22.by.Calvomak.268q.vce

    Hello guys,

today passed ICND1 with 962. Had security testlet with one question to banner supposed to be as security threat (after excluding all other answers, which didnt match) and the second with banner as no threat. Also new question about Wireless has appeared where facts (answers) regarding standarts 802.11w, 802.11ac and 802.11n were included…Good luck all!

On security testlet I´ve ticked on both banner answers as i was eliminating all wrong answers. I had the same wireless question and had 100% on it.

    I had this drag n drop Though…

So… I put the answer for you guys..

    Frames= packet switching
    Atm= cell switching
    Point to point= leased lines
    Isdn or ptsn= circuit switching

    I hope that helps.

Passed the exam a few hours ago with at score of 899. Thanks to everyone that posted information regarding the following topics:

    Routed vs Routing Protocols
    Frame Relay/ATM/ISDN/PSTN Drag and Drop
    DORA Drag and Drop

I studied these sections the last week and it really helped on the exam. I used this site along with the dumps from exam collection to prepare the last few weeks. I would like to mention that prior to that, I used TestOut’s Lab Sim to go over all of the topics so that I would truly understand everything! Not too many people mention it, but it really helped me to understand each of the topics for this exam!

@izbik, I didn’t get an SDM question on my exam, and I don’t think SDM questions are in any of the dumps =/; it’s like nobody has heard of it LOL. But don’t discard it nevertheless, maybe you’re unlucky enough to see SDM questions in your exam; after all, it’s in the syllabus.

  57. @Jay
    January 31st, 2012

Yes. I was actually going to book my exam on Jan 15th. I called the center up, they told me the price, but I decided I’d wait for another day then book it. I called the next day, he said the price is up, haha. My first encounter with Cisco.

Both ICND1 and ICND2 have gone up to $150. And the CCNA composite exam (640-802) is now $295; so now one would save $5 bucks if you decide to take the composite exam =D. Meh, I still think ICND1 and ICND2 is the better path.

Passed my ICND1 yesterday with a 912 mark, this site was a big part of my prepping and even one of the SIMs popped up in the exam though slightly different but it all helps learn the process!

    For preparation I used:
    CBT Nuggets
    Packet Tracer
    9tut

Passed today with 850 mark. Had 4 drop and drags-all on here but mixed up on 2 of the positions of answers, had question on dslam and what it has to do with-multiplexing,had implementation sim 1 and 2 and show configuration sim-these took alot of time had to watch timer close also had security testlet which didnot include the banners, you need to read question carefully and read output of switch and router carefully to answer got 100%. You need to know the process of all the info not just answers because a lot of it I had never seen before and the questions asked different info out of the process-a few questions I had to elimanate wrong answers to get correct answer, also many questions where multiple answers in each –exam was tough but seemed fair-know your stuff –know subnetting in your head–practice all theses sims in packet tracer so you know the process and can get your times down, I have no networking experence and have devoted 2 months to studying-work and study every available moment right up to 15 min review in parking lot before exam.

    materials used
    Cisco press book incd 1
    trainsignals
cbt nuggets–these are good for over all info but wont get you a pass grade
9tut.net–never would have passed without it

thanks 9tut for a chance at a new career now its on to icnd2 and ccna cert

Took the ICND1 today. Scored 663, not upset as I studied only 3 weeks after reading Cisco Study Guide by Odom and I have very little router/switch experience. I did not have enough time to finish the test, time ran out on question 37. All my bad.

Heres what I think I did wrong and what I did right:
    Wrong:
    1. Not near enough CLI work. I will work the commands more and get faster. I need some good labs with explanations (any suggestions?).
    2. Practice test: I was scoring only 60-70% on practice tests – this score predicted my failure. I will wait until I start scoring 90% or better. Any suggestion for good practice tests with explanations?
    3. Use the practice tests to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts.
    Right:
    1. Finding 9TuT – Thanks to all the commentors who add to this dialogue especially xallax and this web owner – all your efforts are appreciated.
    2. Buying the practice info and materials at http://www.ciscovce.com – great deal for 9-10 bucks. I will use them more on my next attempt – I did not get much of a chance to really get the full benefit.
    Hope this helps someone.

Hello once again. I saw that a Frame relay Hotspot (http://www.9tut.com/ccna-hotspot-questions) can be used as a kind of ICND1 questions.
Is it really possible? I thought that detailed examination Frame technology is prerogative of ICND2 exam, isn’t it?
If it is not, what is a difference between Frame relay in ICND1 and ICND2?

    Hello,

I “sat” for and passed my 640-822 exam yesterday! I scored 874.

I studied diligently using both the Odom guides as I was taking the two part path, but finished both parts before taking both tests. I used this site, the _Free_ Self-Assessment tests on the Cisco site, the _free_ Boson simulator and the CBT Nuggets series even tho’ Jeremy sometimes gets a little off track. I did lots of subnetting practice.

Anyway, I went in very nervous, thinking this is the hardest thing I’ve done and I’ve got so much riding on this etc. I was as prepared as I could possibly be.

So I went in and what I’d like you to remember is: While there are lots of difficult questions… you are only going to get two or maybe three of them. Out of the various domains the exam should cover you may get only one question! (I got a zero in one area.) There were questions I had to guess at. (Multiple choice questions where the wording might be tricky, not the double checking x or y subnetting problem or any of the sims covered on this site.)

At the end of the thing, I finished early, felt very confident about the whole test. I’m gearing up for the ICND2 test. Wish me luck!

frame-relay is on the ICND2 curriculum.

you could only hear about it as yet another routing protocol that is used for packet switching on the ICND1 level

    @xallax
I met the question about ARP table of a host.
We have two hosts in the different subnets (e. g. 192.168.1.0/24&192.168.2.0/24)
We should use a router if we want to make a contact between host1 and host2
    We configured interfaces of a router (e. g. fa0/0 192.168.1.254/24 & fa0/1 192.168.2.254/24)
After contact with host2 (ping), what type of entry will be in ARP table of host2?
I checked it in Packet Tracer (did arp – a command on host1) and I saw following:
MAC address and IP address of fa0/0 interface of a router

    In your answer I see:
MAC address of fa0/0 interface of a router and IP address of a host2 (!!!)
    I think it is mistake
After that I checked ARP table of host2 and I see following:
MAC address of a fa0/1 interface and IP address of fa0/1 too!

    passed with 889/1000!
    One question for sure was:
fill in the blanks about dhcp. you had to set the order (dhcp discovery, dhcp acknowledgement, dhcp request, dhcp reply).
another was about UTP cabling. you had a diagram of stuff, and one cable was a UTP cable. So i guess thats the cabling over 200 meters, not sure.
for the sims, i only needed the commands show running-config, show cdp neighbors, and show ip interface brief, and show ip interface serial0/0

that makes no sense. why would the router report the MAC of the interface that is on a different subnet?

the pkt file is working as it should be: each host knows the entry for their respective default gateway.

Guys i did the test a few days ago and one question about cables baffled me. They give you three devices and three possible cable connections. The devices are labelled A b c and the cables d e f. the devices are drawn as square boxes and attached to hosts. box A is connected to an ISP so you know it is a router but after that it gets a bit merky. They label the distances on the cables with one at 20m , and cable between box b and c as 210m. They provide you with different mutliple choices. you are limited by the Options they supply. you have to know about ibre cables and what devices it will connect to.

In my opinion, I’ve found the mistake:
    http://www.2shared.com/photo/TfO7-nwF/subnetmask.html

Why answer B is correct?! Network address of TestkingB is 172.16.1.96/28 and network address of Testking3 is 172.16.1.96/29 too! Yes, subnetmasks of these devices are not same, but they are pingable each other!

In this case, as I properly understand TestkingA connect to Testking2 by crossover cabel (not console as shown) and network addresses’s of Testking2 (interface which is connected to TestkingA) and TestkingA are not same
(I don’t understand, what does a switch do in this shown??):
    172.16.2.0/29 for TestkingA
    172.16.1.96/29 for Tesking2
Therefore, TestkingA cannot ping its default gateway – Testking2

Oh yeah quite a few questions about frames and packets. The questions are phrased to see if you understand that source and IP destination addresses don’t change. these kind of questions are well documented on this site. so if you spend time reading them you will be fine. Why does a switch have a default gate way? Ensure you remember the Sticky command for port security. I had at least 20 questions that have some form of sub netting directly or indirectly. The test is easy. Dont panic , stop wasting time reading loads of different websites learning every ridiculous acronym under the sun. Understand the the basic differences between 802.11a b and G. I wish everyone the best of luck. In regards to labs you need to understand if a password has been set on Line vty to nologin and it has an enable secret password and username will the vty account let you login.

Passed ICND1 today with 962/1000. Used Offical guide only which gave me deep understanding of the subject matter and over prepared me for the exam. I learned of this site a few days ago and reviewed it a few times before my exam (today). I must say that while I may have passed with the Cisco Press book alone, I wouldn’t have been able to acheive a high score without reviewing the subtle nuances mentioned on the forums. Some of the key points that I found benefial were (hint hint):

    1. Understanding that the motd and banner messages are also part of a comprehensive security approach. A non-chalant welcoming message is inappropriate from a security prespective.

    2. Understanding how a cross over cable works and being able to identify a cable by looking at the wires.

    3. Knowing that although ATM and FR can both be described as packet switched, ATM is more specifically referred to as cell switched.

I would recommend being well versed in the following topics:

    1. CDP and related show commands
    2. How a switch treats unknown unicasts
    3. Collision and broadcast domains. (Which devices increase and decrease them)
    4. Infamous DORA (Know which packets are broadcast and which are unicast)
    4. Understand that your life depends on show run – understand the presence or abscence of the login or login local commands and how that affects telnet, ssh and console access.
    5. Subnetting based on stated requirements.
    6. Use CDP to document a network.
    7. Understand and be able to infer information when an interface is the in the administratively down state.

    Hope this helps.

there is a subnet connected to TK2 there.
    it is .104~.111

now look at the tftp server. with that subnet mask it is on .96~.111.
if it had a subnet mask of 255.255.255.248 then it would be on the .96~.103 subnet
