@Denis.
I got the DORA drag&Drop and also a new drag&drop question not listed here. I also got the Implementation and Configuration SIMs which were really easy.
I did get the security one too which baffled me completely.. got 67% on that section.
Not entirely sure what you mean by dumps?
@Rick
Dumps as in collections of practice exams on examcollection.com
@Denis.
I didn’t use any dumps. Used the CBT nugget vids, Cisco Press by Odom and packet tracer. And this site of course π
A question
Switch works at L2
Hub at L1
And a Switchable Hub ?
I havent found an answer, its always bothered me
switchable hubs? what are those? and who uses hubs or repeaters nowadays?
just remember that hubs/repeaters regenerate the electric current.
switches filter/forward frames
routers filer/forward packets. by default they drop broadcasts, but they can forward those too if configured. remember only this: “by default they drop broadcasts”
what is a ccent kit? Is it just the official certificate from CISCO that you passed ICND1?
@jeff
congratulations letter
CCENT diploma
small plastic card (the size of a credit card) with your name and your newly acquired title
not bad.. just saw a picture of the card.. could be better though.
A switchable hub connects 10Mbit and 100Mbit connections
In the old days if 1 pc had a 10Mbit card and 1pc a100mbit card they didnt see eachother (even when connected to the same 10/100 hub)
So its a L1 device
I had 1 about 10 years ago
Does anyone recommend any good test engine sites?
@frodo you can use TestOut (which is 700$) or visit my site and get VCEs for far far less π
http://www.vce.comyr.com
Hi xallax,
Whats included in the price?
I have just completed my ICND1 course, plus im going through CBT Nugget Videos and I am testing my subnetting skills on subnettingquestions.com.
Not sure if I am ready to sit for the exam and I have been told that Boson could help me
Thanks
@frodo
you get the same questions you see here on 9tut.net in a vce format (it’s better to practice when you don’t see the answer right away)
you get a subnetting question generator script
you get a few (8) configuration PacketTracer labs. they come with the solution.
you get a few (10) troubleshooting PacketTracer labs. these are at the CCENT level and shouldn’t take you more than 2 minutes to figure out how to solve each
you get links to the required material for you to study on (pdf books, movies)
i’m updating them as often as possible or whenever something new appears. you get the updates via email.
soon to add the questions from todd lammle’s book too…
well… i hope to see you as a customer and a friend.
i can also help you install everything that’s needed via remote support (teamviewer)
@xallax
So realistically there should be enough in your material for me to pass the ICND1 exam?
@frodo
if you go through all the material? yes. it’s what i used to train for the icnd1 too and i got a maximum score.
it’s all about learning.
Thanks Xallax!
I thank you sir π
Just purchased your material π Wish me luck
@frodo
i hope you had no problems downloading everything.
good luck learning and practicing and thank you!
please leave a review on the site after you’re done, nobody had done so so far… π
@Xallax
I have managed to download and get the Subnet Quiz working. I also downloaded Packet Tracer file but what do I use to open it?
@frodo
i will send you an email right away at m***@qic.com .
dont want to spam here.
@leytiel
the vce files come in english, but if you can solve them in english you should have no problem solving them in french too because the same concepts apply.
the lab descriptions are in english, but you can do them in whatever packettracer language version you wish
the subnet question generator is in english, but the answers are mathematical so it’s the same for all languages
the forum links are for english forums, a good source for you to learn from
most cisco-related material is in english. books, videos, forums, tutorials. it’s the common language.
Yes! PASSED MY ICND1 TODAY! A massive thank you to 9tut. All the Sim and testlets which came up on the exam were on here.
I’m a university student and I have no experience in networking, but was nudged to get into the networking field. So took a ccna course for 1 week, studied for an extra week and took the exam and passed.
Off to ICND2
Hi All,
Just letting you know that Xallas package is quite cheap in price and very useful. I especially like the Packet Tracer Labs he has put together. Also he Xallas was very helpful in getting it all setup and working for me
Thanks
Does SDM actually feature in the exam ?
@neilg
nobody got it so far so you shouldn’t worry about it
Not really worried about it, just noticed that its never discussed
Used it with GNS but damn its slow on a laptop
Using it is pretty straight forward, like most Graphical Interfaces
Another question
Who uses actual cisco labs ?
Have been looking at getting a few “real” cisco devices, but there is NO 2nd hand market in South Africa, which means I have to buy from the states
Any advice or experience with it anyone
The problem with GNS3 is IOS availability, switching and so forth
PT lacks a few commands
They are both great but still not the real thing
@neilg
you could set it all up in gns3 on your main computer and access the computer from your laptop via RDC.
I’m gonna build a SRV for that task soon
My PC is very old, havent used it in a long time
Still want the real thing though, its just better in every way
How do u emulate a cisco switch in GNS3 ?
@neilg
you don’t
use packettracer to emulate some switch features
Passed ICND1 today with a score of 925/1000.
Thank you 9tut. I got the security and Implementation 1 testlets.
@matie
moved the cisco related files to http://www.cisco.vce
try going there, sorry for this π
practice questions, labs and study materials at

I did ICND-1 last Monday and got 937. It was a lot easier than i thought.
man o man … xallax is into selling … he comes here and gets the customer … is it allowed? should it be allowed is the question for 9tut folks …. i thought we share our experiences without paying to xallax website for 6 sterlings! … hmmm … i wonder sometime! For your attention 9tut dudes and dudes!
@nueagle121
i don’t do it with a bad intention and people that actually buy it are satisfied.
as the description says, it has everything needed for you to get prepared for the exam.
you pay 125 or 250 usd for the exam. 6 or 10 eur is too much to pay to get everything needed?
please don’t take me wrong and don’t hold a grudge on me, you are free to believe anything you wish.
my purpose of bringing awareness is served … the burden lies on 9tut folks only!
Having said that … if you are so helpful … so righteous … why don’t you tell the folks here to get the *.vce from http://www.examcollection.com for a whole lot material at a price of $29.00 … wouldn’t that be the right thing to do ?
Its a fine line to “walk”
But remember XallaX also helps lots of people at no cost aswell on this site
So he sells a thing or 2, we all need to make money in some way
Remember he shares his experiences and helps for free just like everyone else …
Heres my take on some GOOD ICND1 resources
Youtube – just search for what u are looking for – FREE
ICND1 Wendel Odom Book – About $30 – search Internet …
CBT Nuggets – Very Good – Dont know cost , search internet …
TrainSignal, good but his voice puts me to sleep, Cost dont know search internet …
9tut – Very good – Free
Examcollection – very good but I dont always agree with the answers
Cisco Packet Tracer – extremely important to have
GNS3
When u need anything GOOGLE is your friend, most things CAN be found for free, as long as you have bandwidth
Dont study questions and answers, rather understand why the answer is X !
Make notes for yourself and then study them
ICND 1 & 2 are probably the most important cisco qualifications, U CANT build a strong house without a good foundation !
@neilg
thank you very much for the support. i help because i can.
@nueagle121
sorry you feel that way. it is your opinion and i respect it because i respect you. i’m not here to start wars, i’m here to learn and help others learn.
i will try not to get on your bad side
Xallax
Check my comment under HOTSPOT
Do u agree
@neilg
already checked it and i hope you don’t mind my answers
Dont mind, see again pls
Here to LEARN and debate, not to be sensitive
Due to one point in the favor of xallax by NeilG :
Every customer xallax gets, 1% must be donated to 9tut folks.
And Justice For All.
Xallax has helped me tremendously and I totally support him. It is totally up to the individual or anyone else for that matter if they want to pay him for his material. I, or we, should not question how anyone makes a dollar these days and if someone wants to send him money, it is there business, so be it. Xallax is knowledgeable and knows his stuff and has never asked me for a cent, the only thing he has offered me was his experience.
we should all thank the person or people behind the *tut network for their work.
@bigd
thank you sir, it means the world to me π
@nueagle121
i stand my ground and say: you are right.
i am taking advantage of those that have little time to search the web and get all the material together. i don’t feel i’m doing something bad because i help them and i don’t ask for all that much in return.
Hey bigd, you passed?
@Jeff, missed by a couple. Going again in a couple of weeks. aghhhh
practice questions, labs and like to material needed to get ready for the exam:
http://www.ciscovce.com
xallax, does this come with the vce software? or do you have to pay for that seperately?
@phenom
you get everything needed, the software included.
Xallax
What exactly do u supply in your “packs” for icnd1 and 2 ?
And what is the download size aswell
@neilg
practice questions – there are questions that came from wendell odom’s book (technical knowledge), questions from the VCEs that i’ve edited and fixed as much as possible to improve the quality of the images or of the text or make the drag and drop type questions work as they should.
you get labs for packettracer. they’re simple, but they’re goal is not to stress your brain out like the questions do, they are intended to get the user familiar with the command line interface, the commands, the logical display of devices in an internetwork, the basic troubleshooting steps.
there are links back to this blog, to *tut’s ccna blog, to get what’s needed to open the VCEs, to tutorials, to forums, to cbtnuggets videos, to books, to everything needed.
all i’m offering is all the material that you should use to get yourself prepared for the exam.
thank you for asking
i just passed ICND1 and how quick can i take ICND2… i saw a certain “180 day….” hey!! that is too far…….is that true!!!!!!!
@anonymous
you must wait 1 day before taking another cisco exam.
If u PASS an exam u have to wait 180 days before u take the same exam again
Think its to protect the question pool, cause no normal person will take an exam, pass it, and then take it again, except if u have motives …
@neilg
he passed icnd1 and wants to take icnd2. waiting time is 1 day for that. it’s not the same exam π
I have my exam on September 26th, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks peeps!
XallaX
Saw that, just explained it anyway …
A person could also argue that they wanted to be SURE they knew the material, thats why they wrote the “same” exam 4 times in a row … Lol
can someone help me out with a question on the exam
There was a router configuration with two password setups, one was “enable password san Jose”, the next line had like a enable secret cisco. It asked which passwords does this router have?
san jose
cisco
san jose and cisco
cisco
something else.
What would be the answer? Thx in advance.
Also, had a question about ethernet crossover cable. It asked which parts of cable…blah blah blah. CHoose two answers.
1 & 2
2 & 3
4 &5
7 & 8
Thx in advance. The sims were the ones on here.
It’s the wiring for a cable. It is 1&3/2&6, you have your’s matched up wrong. As far as your first question I have no idea.
@tersfan
enable secret will be used if configured and enable password will be ignored.
answer: “san Jose”
for the cables: 1-2, 3-6 or 1-3, 2-6 as bigd said.
@Xallax, do you know if that sim that Tersfan is talking about on 9tut? I don’t recall ever seeing that sim he’s talking about.
@bigd
no, there’s not enough info on it
Terpsfan
Your statements arent very detailed so its difficult
But passwords are configured but the enable secret password will be used (it superseeds the enable password), the answer depends on the wording of the question
Same with the cable again, depends on the wording
read more about standard 1468 A & B
On a straight cable the pinouts will be the same on both sides
On a crossover there will be a difference, 1 will go to 3 and 2 wiil go to 6
A crossover cable uses std 1468A on the one side and B on the other side
Like I said it depends on the wording of the question
Hey BIGD..its wasn’t a sim….just a question with those command statements
Can u believe it, I stay in a “major centre”, but have to travel 250km to a smaller town to go write my exam, unbelievable !
My exam has suddenly become alot more expensive, and has now become a whole day affair
@neilg
think of it as a trip.
i wish you all the luck (as if you need any)
ICND1/ICND2/CCNA practice questions, labs and much more:
http://www.ciscovce.com
Thanks for your input guys. I failed again…got a 784 even though I thought I answered nearly everyone correctly. I also accidentally skipped that security testlet question..fat fingered it.
But as I look at my scores breakdown below.
describe operation of data network 57%
implement small switched 67%
implement ip addressing 100%
implement small routed 47%
explain WLAN tasks 100%
identify security threats 100%
implement verify wan links 100%
According to that breakdown and perecentages..shouldn’t by total score be 815.7 according to the breakdown anaylsis below:
Section Total Score % Total Points
142.8571429 0.57 81.42857143
142.8571429 0.67 95.71428571
142.8571429 1 142.8571429
142.8571429 0.47 67.14285714
142.8571429 1 142.8571429
142.8571429 1 142.8571429
142.8571429 1 142.8571429
1000 Total 815.7142857
Terpsfan
What training and practice material do u use ?
U said
describe operation of data network 57%
Implement small switched 67%
implement small routed 47%
Remember , understanding the question IS MORE important than doing the task !
Implementation can be practiced in Packet Tracer till u can do it with your eyes closed.
There are some implementation sims on 9tut, work through them, dont learn the answer, understand why its the answer
Then work through some exam collection tests (see older posts) and u should be ready
Terpsfan, how much time do you practice labs in PT or GNS? As NeilG said, ICND1 sims can be practiced well enough that you can do it with your eyes closed. And there really isn’t much to it imo.
Thank you for your advice and suggestion. I thought I aced all the sims.
Nevertheless, do you see my point from the score analysis? If you average it out, I should have passed unless one section is weighted more than the other…correct?
You failed, put it behind u and prepare for the next test
training material for ICND1:
http://www.ciscovce.com
I just purchased How2Pass to use for my prepping and I highly recommend it to anyone getting ready to take their ICND1. I studied all the material and 2 weeks before my exam I purchased this software and I feel ready.
It shows every single testlet, sims and anything and everything that you need to get you ready for that big day. It only costs $39 bucks and it is money well spent. http://www.how2pass.com,,,check it out
@bond y dnt u upload d crack…..
Passed today 912,
Thanks to my classroom instructor
Thanks to CBTnuggets – great info to repeat what instructor said
Great thanks to 9tut, about 5 questions(3 labs) wich were on exam !!
Strongly recomend to nail down all the matterial here and you will defenetly pass !
@LMR, can you be more specific as to what questions/labs you had or saw on the exam?
2nd and 4th SIMS from labSim link (exactly the same)
Question 4 from Wan Questions (exactly the same)
Very simmilar questions to what in ARP section
Q2(very simmilar) from Operations
Versy simmiral Qs from Subnetting
Q4 from Wireless Questions (exactly the same)
was the question “DORA” about how DHCP operates(was in one of the comments) (exactly the same)
Discovery
Offer
Request
Ack
I believe any of the Qs on this site might be on test. So i recomend to study * π
@LMR, Appreciate your input. Good luck on ICND2
Has anyone been able to find a job with the ccna?
I’ve just got xallax’s stuff, to give me that final push to take the exam. I’ve been studying for the ccna on and off for nearly 9 months :O. But I’m going to break the exam into 2 parts, hopefully take the icnd1 in 2 weeks, then the icnd2 a few weeks after that. This stuff takes forever to sink into my brain :s
@phenom
i hope you are satisfied with the material you’ve got. if you encounter any problems at all please contact me and i will more than happily help.
thank you!
@Xallax, im going to be contacting you later on this afternoon. I have something to discuss with you.
@bigd
i’ll be in front of the pc all day long, working on a website π
@XALLAX,
HOSTA——SW1——–FA0/0R1FA0/1———–SW2———-FA0/1R2FA0/0———HOST2
WHAT IS THE SOURCE/DESTINATION MAC ADDRESS
WHY AM I HAVING TROUBLE WITH SOMETHING SO EASY AS THIS???????
MY ANSWER- SOURCE MAC FA0/0 R1 DEST MAC FA0/1 R2
@Xallax,
new answer–source MAC fa0/0 R1 DestMAC fa0/0 R2
This is my only trouble
MAC works only on “LOCAL” network
Source is where its coming from so HOST A
Destination is the “exit”, so FA0/0
IP addresses
Source is where its coming from, so HOST A
Destination is where it wants to go, so HOST 2
Remember MAC = ARP = LAN (local or “directly” connected)
Local as in same address range
Why did I think that source goes to the next hop? So I thought that fa0/0 on R1 is the first hop so it is the source MAC?
Now, if it reversed and frame is sent from Host2 to Host1 source MAC and Dest MAC is fa0/0 of HostA?
Let me fix, source MAC is Host2 and dest MAC is fa0/0 of R1?
@neilg
very good, thank you π
@bigd
HOSTAββSW1βββFA0/0 R1 FA0/1ββββSW2βββ-FA0/1 R2 FA0/0βββHOST2
HOSTA sends frame with source MAC of 0000.0000.0001
R1 gets frame with source MAC of .0001
reads IP of HOSTA from the packet / decapsulated frame
routes packet towards R2’s FA0/1
sets the source MAC to 0000.0000.0002 <- new MAC here, the one of R1's Fa0/1 interface
Sw2 just forwards the frame…
R2 gets the frame, decapsulates it, reads the packet inside, compares the IP to its local table, forwards the packet towards its Fa0/0 interface, creates a new frame, sets MAC to 0000.0000.0003 <- MAC of R2's Fa0/0 here
Host2 gets the frame… reads the packet… reads the segment… reads the data…
hope this helps even though mister neilg answered your question already. thanks again
Same as reversed, source MAC would be Host2 and Dest MAC would be fa0/0 of HostA?
I mean fa0/0 of R1
@bigs
well, MAC is local. you only need it to get from here to there.
IP is glocal. you need it to get from your starting position to your final destination
it’s like a using a train to get from here to there.
your leave from a certain station: station A (IP: 192.168.1.1)
you get through all these stations (using MACs). the source and destination station keeps changing as soon as the train reaches the next station (new source and destination MAC).
you stop once you get to your destination: station B (IP: 200.4.4.26)
source and destination IPs don’t change till the packet reaches its destination
MACs are just stations along the path, they change
HOSTAββSW1βββFA0/0R1FA0/1ββββSW2βββ-FA0/1R2FA0/0βββHOST2
Lets say u ping from HOST A to HOST 2
Source ip = host A
Destination ip = host 2
Source MAC = host A
Dest MAC = FA0/0 r1
Then
Source mac = fa0/0 r1
Dest mac = fa0/1 r1
Then
Source mac = fa0/1 r1
Dest mac = fa0/0 r2
And so on …
