    Hi All,

    Been studying consistenty for the CCENT exam and I dont know if I am ready to sit for the exam. I have got Subnetting down to perfecrtion and I have been using Packet Tracer to create my own Networks which are working excellent. I know how to configure routers using RIP V2 or even using EIGRP. Setting up port Security on a switch is easy. Is there anything else I should be focusing on for e.g NAT?

    Any help would be appreciated as I would like to sit for my exam within the next 4 weeks. I have done the course, gone through CBT Nugget Videos, I have the Cisco Press Book which comes with Boson Test Engine

    Thanks

    Search for exam collection, work through a test or two
    Work through (and understand) this site

    After that u should be good

    I learnt to configure NAT manually, cause using GNS3 and SDM is so bloody slow, nothing to SDM, its point and click

    I started with ICND2 studies today, gonna write both exams on the same day

  38. Jeff
    October 3rd, 2011

    @ Fletch

    RIP and static routes are the only routing protocols taught at the ICND1 level. NAT is for ICND2. If you already know your subnetting well and you’ve even gone through formal training then you should be ready. I would say taking it in less than 4 weeks would be better. Just be familiar with the various show commands and what the output tells you.

  39. Fletch
    October 3rd, 2011

    @ Jeff

    Thanks for your response Jeff. I guess I will need to look at Static routes a bit more and keep playing with Packet Tracer. Do you recommend any other good training material? I also use http://www.subnettingquestions.com to test my knowledge and im pretty good at that.

    1) Security Sim- You have to use the show running-config to get the answers
    2) Implementation Sim- The way you see it here is the way to do it, just different IP addresses
    3) All drag-n-drops on this site- I had them, they threw them at me for sure.
    4) Show Config sim- had that one too

    DO NOT MEMORIZE THE ANSWERS- Know what you are doing- Do not go in there because you spent weeks going over the questions and memorized the answers because it’s going to burn you.

    in packettracer you can use short commands (conf – configure, en – enable, sh mac – show mac-address-table)

    i am confused because question is asked about switch port, layer 3 is not mentioned, show arp command showed macs only after enabling vlan interface. i do not have cisco switch and there are no cisco switches in gns, can you tell if there are other options if i press [?] after typing [show mac-address] in real cisco switch? if there is only [mac-address-table] option only then answer A is correct.

    Router_1# show ip protocols
    Routing Protocol is β€œrip”
    Sending updates every 30 seconds, next due in 8 seconds
    Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240
    Outgoing update filter list for all interfaces is not set
    Incoming update filter list for all interfaces is not set

    After a RIP route is marked invalid on Router_1, how much time will elapse before that route is removed from the routing table?

    A. 30 seconds
    B. 60 seconds
    C. 90 seconds
    D. 180 seconds
    E. 240 seconds

    Answer: B

    how is the answer B plz explain xallax

  75. xallax
    October 15th, 2011

    @anonymous
    “Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240”

    router thinks this way:
    i wait 180 seconds to get a message from my neighbor
    if i don’t get it after 180, then i wait up to 240 (another 60 seconds). if 240 seconds passed since last message then i consider my neighbor as non-existent any longer.

    answer B is correct

    Just passed the 640-822 (ICND1) earlier today. It was alot easier than I thought it was going to be, but it was still a tough test. Got an 899 in 45 minutes. I saw a bunch of things on this website on the test, 1 or 2 even word for word.

    If you know your stuff (ALOT OF SUBNETTING), then it really wont be all that hard.

    Study like it’s going to be the most difficult test you have ever taken. Better to be over prepared then under.

    I used the ICND1 Book from cisco press, cbtnuggets, and this website.

  78. BigM

    Nice one MrMan!

    Hi everybody,
    I have my test booked for next Tuesday morning, and was wondering did anyone have any last minute advice for me, i have gone through discovery 1 and 2, i have read the Cisco official press book and even gone through the exam cram guide and the last 3 latest dumps on exam collection. But i still feel nervous as this is my first real certification exam and don’t know what to expect.

    Thanks guys and girls.

    October 19th, 2011

    @Hello
    Keep practicing subnetting, you can’t practice that enough. and go through all this website has to offer in the way of the 640-822. They are very helpful and you will more than likely see a few of them on the test. But don’t memorize the answer, understand the process.

  81. Hello
    October 19th, 2011

    @Anonymous

    Thanks for the advice, have already gone through all on 9tut site and think i understand where it all comes from and as for subnetting that just depends on the day usually i can do it in 30 ish sec but if its complicated then it might take me up to a min i just hope that nothing like that happens on the day. Assuming its not a violation of the NDA can i ask are the style of questions similar to the ones in the dumps or are the more like questions within questions, because some of the questions in the dumps are very straight forward, and dont seem to be out to get anyone

  82. Anonymous

    @Hello
    I honestly didn’t really look too much at the dumps. I think the dumps are all just multiple choice questions. It’d be beneficial to go to

    network 172.17.1.0 0.0.0.3

    and then a few cards and cables for another $150
    Can’t wait to get all my stuff so I can continue full steam with the CCNA and into the CCNP
    Unfortunately GNS3 keeps on crashing on my laptop the whole time and it bothers me that PT doesn’t support all the commands
    Have to say I scored a few bargains buy taking time and hunting around in the tiny 2nd hand Cisco market in South Africa !
    Still hunting for a 2950T and 2 x 3550

    As an example, the 2811 goes for about $600 overseas, I got 2 for that price !
    And most of the overseas kits include routers that’s no longer in production, I try to buy current equipment as much as possible.

    As excited as a little boy in a candy store

    @neilg
    the candy store lady must be a real turn on…
    joke aside, that is one hell of a home lab. you could very well set up your own ISP company for a few villages with that equipment.
    i see the business opportunity here too πŸ™‚

    worst of all, only getting all my “stuff” next week, it’s gonna be a looooong weekend ! Havent worked on a Cisco Router for years !
    It costs a lot of money, but I consider it an investment

    Nothing beats the real thing hey

    Well. I am UK based and to be honest it was not easy..at all. But I PASSED 950/1000. 50 questions. You must me well prepared and do reverse engineering a lot.. Cisco loves the increments of 16 πŸ™‚ I am soo happy!! At ICND1.. you definitely have to know the theory…and yes there is a security question..didn’t like that..but got 100% on it…common sense but you have to think about it..and 9tut is definitely helpful..but far not enough! CBTNuggets + Odom or Ted will give you a PASS πŸ™‚

    To be honest.. Good to be a CCENT .. πŸ™‚ .. Three months of preparation and i ll be a CCNA..hopefully πŸ™‚
