@ Markus I don’t agree with your statement that ICND1 is tougher…ICND2 tests deep into routing protocols, AD, FD, metrics and troubleshooting. and seeing that there is a full chaper on OSPF, EIGRP and TROUBLESHOOTING in the odom study guide you definately need to pay alot of attention to those topics, none of which is tested in ICND1. Make sure you do a lot of practice questions
Can no one answer my question π ? Please read up, Someone needs to just explain that pls
I think I may have answered my own question, if anyone can verify please let me know?
The reason answer B is not valid is because of the extra line at the end.
anyone interested in going half on the bundle deal @ getcertify 2 icnd2 vouchers for 100.00 but the exam must be taken tomorrow. i am going to buy one today but 50.00 is a better deal than 75.00. let me know asap. you must be able to pay by paypal its the only way to guarantee no funny business or shadiness. let me know soon because i cant wait too long.
jwash1ngton@netscape.net
@NN
the correct answer is C why?
EIGRP put the route with the best metric in its routing table…looking at the topology, the first line tells you how many route would be in the routing table, by showing 1 successor …..
and the successor is the one with the lowest metric which is the one with 27????????
@Raphael
Pls can u help me with login to download the cbt nugg video at the site pls…
I thought I was through before but all the files i downloaded were corroupt as I did the easy download instead of the secured one….
thanks
My email is: baileystudiotampa@yahoo.com
@NEED SOME HELP: I wrote a very detailed EIGRP tutorial that can help you unerstand these concepts: http://www.9tut.com/eigrp-routing-protocol-tutorial
@Al_D I just recently looked through VTP documentation… global configuration vtp mode (client) or whatever seems to be the only way to configure these parameters. in my honest opinion I think you might have ran into a simulation bug. I have heard of these things happening before on these tests. you should have nicely confronted the proctors for the issue you described.
unless someone here has a larger understanding of how VTP works for configuration, I think you got hosed.
@AL_D
There is another way. I’ve done it before on old switches. I think it’s something like that (can’t really remember)
Switch-B# vlan database
Switch-B(vlan)# vtp transparent
Setting device to VTP TRANSPARENT mode.
Switch-B(vlan)# exit
APPLY completed.
Exiting….
@jharry
Yea man. I also got that frame-relay question near the end, with just a few minutes left. Thankfully, I knew I was doing and was able to answer that question very quickly. I must say tho, I got a little nervous and didn’t think i would pass, but I did. Almost perfect sore π
I am very confident about my abilities. I only checked this page for some confident boost, because I am not willing to shell out 125 dollars and not pass the exam. LOL π
@bailey
Not sure if you need login… i just downloaded the torrent file, and than started to download all videos… I did it for ROUTE, SWITCH and TSHOOT, all from the same site…
@Raphael,
Thanks a lot..I got them all..
are u CCNA cert already ?
@ 9tut THANX SO MUCH π woooooo dunno how I didn’t find that, was staying on 9tut.net, didn’t see the .com π thanx alot! great site π π
Do we need to know how to calculate EIGRP metrics using the formula for the INCD2 exam ??
1) A router has learned three possible route that could be used to reach a destination network. One route is from EIGRP and has a composite metric of 20514560.Another route is from OSPF with a metric of 782.The last is from RIPv2 and has a metric of 4.
Which route or routes will the router install in the routing table?
a) the OSPF route
b)the EIGRP route
c)the RIPv2 route
d)all three routes
e)the OSPF and RIPv2 routes
EIGRP has the lower administrative distance of all three protocols listed so I think the answer to the question is B.
@Bailey,
Yes, and i need to thanks all, this site helps a lot ! Also the vce was very usefull.
Tks again. Now its time to evolute, but im a little bit confusing if i test ccna security or i if i go trough ccnp….
How about you guys?
FSL on the frame relay questions you had what command do you use to display the results?.
Thanks
Basic sh run, show frame-relay map type of commands
FSL thanks but basic sh runs work or you have to type the complete command.
FSL, one more questions. Do you think if i type sh run instead of show running-config I would have an issue with the interface
Yousif
Congrats! You walk tall now – CCNA!!
I just got done with a firewall project – back on the study bubble – I am not in a hurry as my employer may now be sending me to class anyway for ICND2. A week sitting in a class with some guy reading out of the book – This is not the way to go and everyone here knows this however as part of employment they will send me anyway. I will then HAVE to pass the exam in short order. The class will be brush up and I can focus on my weak points. Your question about the 32 block that is new was also seen by VASH when he scored his CCNA.
I will have to build up my momentum again and will start drilling this again. I have no issue with retaining the knowledge and to your point, yes I can sit the exam now and take my chances however I don’t like to take chances and want the score the brass ring on the first sitting.
Endless thanks for 9Tut,I got my ccna 30 – 40% questions were new, but if you know your subject you can easily answer. Even if you don’t they aren’t worth a lot. Sims from this site will get you ccna if you know it very well. They just changed stuff, little bit but same stuff.
9Tut THANKS A TRILLION
of forgot, as a token of appreciation LEAST WE can do is CLICK on Sponsor ADs on this site. SINGLE click on each Sponsor, NOT more than Single click on SAME Sponser.
hmeister, you are so right. i have to study and pass several practice exams thru school which are just worthless. but I have to do it. once I am done with that baloney I come here and use the VCE’s to start studying for real. no one would EVER pass with just what they teach.
Passed the ICND 2 with 916 just recently. there were several new questions, if you know your stuff you will get through them just fine; they mostly had to do with ICND 1 topics with switchport security. I missed a lot of questions that I realized I had gotten wrong after clicking next knowing full well that I couldn’t go back and fix them. Ohh well.
Hmeister, Thank you and the community for all your help.
I studied using the following materials:
CBTNuggets with Jeremy Cioara (Simply Awesome and Enthusiastic Man)
Wendell Odom ICND 1 & 2
and a little bit of Cisco Academy.
to be honest you have to just believe in yourself and be sure of your answers; that pretty much led me through the exam.
I feel like in a sense that I don’t deserve this certification, mainly because I don’t have real life experience actually doing this work; I enjoy this kind of thinking involved; and that is why I am pursuing a job in the field currently to start doing this type of work.
Good luck everyone!
WHOKNOWS which SIMS you had on the exam?
I had VTP simulation and the OSPF simlet (NOT THE SIMULATION) at the end.
to be frank I thought the exam went WAY to easy on me.
Weird. I got a better score than you did, but still thought the exam was very hard.
That is because all of you calculate your scores wrong. You would think with all the subnetting math you guys would be better at it. Remember, the scores go from 300 to 900. You all give yourselves credit for the missing 300 or 400 points. You have to remember there are only 600 points you can get plus the 300 you start with. You should give your actual score rather than trying to figure out a percentage. It is not correct.
Good point, Lyndon. Plus anyone on here who claims to have scored a 900, or as they claim it “1,000” is flat out lying just to mess with you. If you really want to do the math, you only have to get about 84% to pass. But even that is not entirely accurate, since some questions are weighted more than others.

pass ICND2 today… thanks 9tut
I don’t understand this, is it an error ? Hmeister rev 27
Exam B, question 10.
Which VLSM mask will be best for network A
Diagram shows network A – 66 hosts
network B – 310 Hosts
A) /25
B) /26
C) /27
D) /28
I said A, ( /25 ) the answer says D /28… but being VLSM the masks can vary from network to network, so 66 hosts is what you work with and that is /25 right?
I may be going mad… but im confused right now π
Aizen
you are right, best choice would be /25.
Lyndon and Brent, did your took any cisco exam yet? it clearly stated on your result.” the official score is based on a scale of 300 to 1000 points” i hope your apology for making those commands.
How do you come up with /25 for 66 hosts? Can someone give the explanation?
Steve 128=25 ; 64=26; 32=27 and so on. you need to know subnet π
Just passed the ICND2… now i am CCNA certifed… THANKS 9tut. My word of advice… study all the material for ICND2 on this webpage and also the material on the 9tut CCNA site…
The answer is A you are correct. If you build a chart out like this… you can see that /25 fits 128 host… where as 64 host total is not sufficient for the network
192 224 240 248 252 254 255
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32
darn, my post did not show it right…
““192 `224 `240 `248 `252 `254 `255
128 `64 “32“ 16 “8 “`4 “2 ““1
25 “26 “27 “28“ 29 “30` `31` `32
OK i give up… basically the 192 suppose to align with 64, and 26. 224 suppose to align with 32 and 27. This charge makes it easy for anyone to figure out the Subnet mask, number of HOST total and /#
hey ipassed, how about writting it down in notepad then taking a screenshot, then upload it somewhere, then post the link to that picture? π
see? there are ways to overcome 9tut’s text formatting if you really want to π

thnx walter, i realized how simple it was right after i posted it.
yeah, i wrote that chart out as soon as i sat down for my icnd1 test. it is a HUGE time saver. (it’s up to you, if you want to memorize it or however you want to get it into the testing room)
Ok by the suggestion of stevo, I tried to make a pdf for the chart. Here it is http://www.2shared.com/document/obQS8m4o/subnet_chart.html
FEEL FREE TO UPDATE, change it up, do whatever you like to it.
I meant xallax not stevo… whoops
Good job, ipassed. Not only will that chart save you time doing calculations, but it will also allow you to make much more educated guesses when you are not certain of an answer.
Hello Xallax,
What is the password for ICND2_practice_questions_1.07.vce practice exam.
Thanks.
Regards,
Hello ipassed,
I cannot download below chart:
http://www.2shared.com/document/obQS8m4o/subnet_chart.html?cau2=403tNull
can you please send an updated link.
Thanks.
@CHARO:
hello to you too. you don’t need a password to use that file. just double click on it and it will run just fine.
cheers
Thanks Xallax for the reply… I need to print that file so I can study offline… When I tried to open the file using CertExam Manager, it asked for a password…
Do you have it as pdf?
Thanks.
i scored over 900 hits on ICND2 today. i took that baby out.
no shite – had over 40 questions, but trust this:
vtp sim CHECK
frame relay CHECK
no eigrp
can’t rely too much on dumps – look out for changes to ip address, etc… CISCO trying to trip you up
i’m heading over to voice, but hit me up for advice.
respect to hmeister – no shit
test – I don’t see my posts
Xallax
Hi THere, I want to change the exams to 20 questions or so I can spen about an hour on each. I tried to open int Exam Designer but it asks for a password. Would you mind sharing the password?
If not would it be too much to ask for you to create one and make it avaiable?
Kind Regards (ex user CCN…EH & bob? but my posts are not showing when I submit)
@test: may be when I put @ as the first character
rescheduled for 23rd , 3rd time lucky I am hoping π
@studymonkey
no, i do not intend on sharing the password. you can set the exam to have 20 questionsc.
look at the bottom of the page when you start an exam and select:
“Take questions from entire exam file”
@CHARO search for actualtests or use hmeisters original file.
cheers
tomtom do you remember any questions on the exam you have taken?
TOMTOM any VPN questions? no one here never talk about it.
fellers:
no VPN questions – nadah, shit, zilch.
some baby easy questions on RIP (drag-drop)
lots of ACL drag-drop
some bastard questions on EIGRP FS routes from printouts
xallax: I want to go through every question, and doing it that way you only get random questions. I’ll have to create my own.
Does your version have any differenet questions than hmeisters?
If you want to keep control thats upto you. Thanks for the effort.
yes, it does have a few new questions (took them from 9tut.net/9tut.com) and lots of changes all in all.
yes, i do intend on keeping control over the file i’ve been editing for almost a month now.
please do understand that it’s not finished yet, i still have about 40 questions to change the picture from image to text or improve the image quality, i have to change drag and drops some more, have to add more information from 9tut, verify answers. all i need is time π
anyway, i’ve split into 26 exams (maximum) with 20 questions each. i hope you are happy now π
http://www.mediafire.com/?ihl77a6ait6cs2s
Um err now I feel guilty :-|, Thank you vey much for that extra work. Your a good man(?). Is there anything I can do for you?
yes, actually there is. please point out the mistakes you find in VCE file. my goal is to improve it and let others learn.
thank you
Passed ICND2 with 902
Alot of respect to Hmeister
missed the exam on the Friday the 13th, lol … just scored 800 … I was caught off guard on IPv6 topics … had 6 questions on this … need to review OSPF / EIGRP show commands .. and there are a couple of new drag and drop … I think 60% of questions here are still valid.
I had VTP, EIGRP and Frame Relay simlet
RETAKE101 Did you had any simulations on your exam and which one you had? i am taken this exam in three weeks. I am going over testking , how2pass, pass4sure and actual test ..
Hi retake101, i did my icnd2 on friday the 13th too..LOL..i thought i gonna failed but i passed with less than 880 π i had vtp n frame relay sim too, quite a few of new questions n i have this pvc active n inactive question, know ur eigrp. for me, i do not have much or no ospf question for me, but there is quite a lot of subnetting n eigrp for me. for my drag n drop question, all appear in 9tut..haha..off to ccnp switching now π
AllenWalker, What is the frame relay sim? I don’t see a frame relay sim listed under the Labsim section?
AllenWalker, What is the frame relay sim? I donβt see a frame relay sim listed under the Labsim section?
Never mind, I found it.
hmmmmmm Ok need to set a date now so i can actually get this done π thinking next week friday wish me luck guys π
Ok firstly gonna write next monday not friday,
Now a question, Hmeister Rev27, exam C , question 1
Most efficient summery R1 can send R 2 etc
* the routes attached to R1 as follows*
172.1.4.0 /25
172.1.4.128/25
172.1.5.0 /24
172.1.6.0 /24
172.1.7.0 /24
Answers
A) 172.1.0.0 /22
B) 172.4.1.0/24
172.5.1.0/24
172.6.1.0/24
172.7.1.0/24
C) 172.1.4.0 /22
D) 172.1.0.0 /21
I said D, but it says C is correct, Please check and see if im right, or wrong and explain please
Aizen
The answer is C.
Obviously we already know the first two octets are the same in each subnet. The third octet is different so we change them to binary
172.1.00000100
172.1.00000100
172.1.00000101
172.1.00000110
172.1.00000111
Looking at that binary numbers of the third octet, we can see that the 0’s and 1’s match up to the 4 position so the subnet number is 172.1.00000100.00000000 = 172.1.4.0
The prefix is /22 because the we know the first two octets are 8+8=16 since they are the same in all subnets. You then add the rest of the third octet that matches up in each subnet 000001 = 6. 8+8+6 = 22
Tried my best to explain. Hope it makes sense.
stop thinking in 1s and 0s, damn it! we’re not machines.
you need to summarize from 4.0 to 7.255, that means a block of 4.0 (convenient range, huh?)
starts and 172.1.4.0, ends at 172.1.7.255. the mask we need is 255.255.252.0 (8+8+6+0 = 22 bits)
answer: 172.1.4.0/22
Great job of explain NN and XALLAX.
AH ok i see the error in my ways π
thanx NN makes alot of sense, my mind was not in the summarization way of thinking, was like using subnetting logic… how you explained it is actually how i learnt it… just forgot it :/ scary
and xallax how did you just know the mask is 255.255.255.252 ? I see the 8+6+6+0 but if you not using the binary method where did you get those figures?
I understand it now, thank you both, just curious as to the method used by Xallax, how you got the mask ? would much appreciate a little more explanation on that part..
Grr just when i thought i knew it all π mad what you can forget well i got a week to make sure i know everything
Aizen
well… here it goes:
it’s about “the magic number”, as i’ve learn it from the black guy on the testout videos (no offense intended).
you need a block size of 4.0? you have 255.255 (that’s 8 bits and 8 more bits) and then you continue the subnet mask:
the maximum number you can have in the subnet mask is 255, add 1 to it, you get 256, substract 4 out of it (this 4 comes from the block size), you get 252. now add 0 because anything that follows an incomplete bit range is… 0. always 0.
let’s add it all up: 255.255 and 252 and 0. that’s 255.255.252.0
now let’s learn those decimal/binary values so we dont have to always transform and multiply, add and subtract and all that.
255 is 8 bits. why is that? because… 2^0+2^1+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7 = 255.
254 = … 7 bits. why? well… from 2^8 you subtract 1 bit, meaning you subtract 2 from that magic number of 256. 256 – 2 = 254
252 = … 6 bits. you subtract 2^2 bits leaving only 6 to the subnet
248 = … 5 bits. you subtract 2^3 bits leaving only 5 to the subnet
and so on, and so forth.
******
chart to remember, it’s not that hard:
255 = 8 bits
254 = 7 bits
252 = 6 bits
248 = 5 bits
240 = 4 bits
224 = 3 bits
192 = 2 bits
128 = 1 bit
0 = … 0 bits
those above are the bits used for the subnet mask. you can very easily figure the number of subnets you can get and the number of host on each subnet.
********
it’s just elementary math mostly, that’s what subnetting is.
question: what subnet would be best for a company that has 27 computers and wants to use a class C IP range?
class C mask is 255.255.255.SUBNET_BITS
27 is greater than 16, smaller than 32 (learn the first 10-12 powers of 2!!!). this means it would go perfectly with a subnet mask ending with 256-32=224.
answer: 255.255.255.224
how many hosts maximum? 30 (256-224=32, substract the subnet address and the broadcast: 32-2=30)
how many subnets? 224 = 3 bits, 2^3=8 subnets.
it took me 2 minutes to type it all down. anyone that took icnd1 would say that is way too slow. and it is. if i do it with pen and paper it takes me a few seconds. this is not bragging, this is what you must achieve if you want to beat the clock on the exam.
********
question: class C ip, 97 hosts.
subnet mask: 255.255.255.128
maximum hosts? 126
maximum subnets? 2.
cisco equals modern internet. the internet is about doing things practical, not learning it from a book. but still, you must read before you practice…
this post became kinda big, sorry π
thank you for reading all that, now click this link and start practicing. after 30 minutes of doing this your subnetting speed will increase a lot.
https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadBody/8422-102-1-30632/Subnet_Quiz.hta
Thank you so much π
and im a reader, so I really don’t mind long posts, that really helped get me back on track,
and the link is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im reverse subnetting in average of 30 – 40 secs now after 30 mins of doing it π
thanks alot xallax π writing on monday π after studying everything i kinda forgot summerization and trying to figure it out confused my subnetting but it’s all back π and i have done and passed my incd1 π
alotta knowledge going on in this head ^_^
Aizen
on monday you say…
before my exam i did these:
– watched ICND1 cbtnuggets videos. no messenger, no tv, no games. just cbtnuggets videos.
– did vce tests. i went over almost all questions out there, mostly did ariel’s. and those were on the test too.
– on the exam day went on a bench in the park and started writing down all the router commands i knew. all of them. as i did that i was also thinking on what they do, what are they good for.
if you feel you are ready and you do an average of 950+ on ariel’s VCE then… go for it!
as for that link… i came upon it sometime in January or February, saved it to my pc and used for 5-10 minutes just to relax. doing that simple math is relaxing, don’t you think?
why is there all this discussion on taking the icnd1 test on the icnd2 posting area??
Hi everyone
I need to run these lab questions on Packet tracer please help me where is the sources?
hey jamie
it’s not an icnd1 discussion, i just told him what i did before i took icnd1.
as for the subnetting posts above, those apply to icnd2 just as well.
@Amin
which questions?
@ jamie yeah im doing my INCD2, it’s just prep methodology, I’ve watched all the Cbt nugget ICND2 vids ( twice now ),
Done many VCE tests ( actually gonna be doing your ones today ),
As for Ariel seen that name, but only done Hmeister exams, ( just occured to me that ariel may be for the INCD1 ? )
You inspired me to go over the CBT vids again ( got 5 days till i write ) I’l do 10 vids a day,
get through them in 3 days.
and Yeah that reverse subnetting link is brilliant π enjoy it alot π
The VCE’s for INCD2 im gonna focus on YOUR VCE File, Does that cover it ? π
but ok yeah in heavy study mode ^_^ phone’s not in use :P, pc games not being played :P.
Wish me luck
Aizen
Can’t go over all the vids again, its too fresh π they just boring me to death, so went over all the notes i made while watching the vids, again. and going over everything in 9tut then will do tons of VCE’S
good luck on your exam, i’ll schedule mine after i’m done with my faculty exams. yes, ariel’s vce is for icnd1, i told you what i did before going for icnd1. why? because maybe you took that one, maybe you havent. just wanted to share the way i trained.
Thanks. I was just confused seeing Ariel’s VCE posted here. I find watching the videos over and over again too boring, as well. Going to concentrate on 9tut and hmeister’s VCE. Any other VCE come highly recommended here? Testing next week.
Please send the crack file. Thanks.
Guys, just passed. I’m man enough to admit it was close. Had the VTP sim and the frame relay hotspot. The VTP sim threw me off when I went to apply the vtp domain name.
I also had a drop and drop about DLCI and LMI, mainly about what they did and such. (User failed wrote about this item and I think it was the same one I had: “The drag and drop had PVC, DLCI, LMI, CIR, and about 4 other to drag over to 5 meanings.”)
Most of the questions seemed to be on the VCE version 27. Thanks to hmeister and everyone else updating it.
I did not use nuggets, but studied the VCE, and Test4Actual, which was accurate. I had also studied TestKing, but looking back did not seem to help although it contained quite a bit of good info. I also took a class.
Before starting the exam, I wrote down the subnetting chart. Some will say that doing so is somewhat unnecessary or lower social class, but helped saving time for me at least. And time will probably be a factor.
Good luck guys!
On the vtp domain name (see above) .. it said the command was not available in the sim. So I must have been in a submenu or something. I logged out and back in and it let me use the command.
One more thought: on the hotspots, when you finish an answer, you might need to click on topology to get the graphic back up. Do not be tempted to click the NEXT button. It will take you out of your hotspot exercise as if you were done with it.
roy, nice summery. so you thought the hmiester vce was relevant to your exam? were the ip addresses changed on your vtp sim? what do you mean by the vtp domain name threw you off? was the frame relay hotspot different in any way?
thanks. congrats! a pass is a pass is a pass.
@jamie, thanks! Yes the hmester vce was very relevant. Another user had mentioned that sections A and D seemed to be the most useful, so I concentrated on those.
On the domain name, it said the vtp domain command was not available in the sim. So I must have been in a submenu or something. I logged out and back in and it then let me use the command.
I did not memorize the ip numbers in the vtp sim but looking back now I believe they were the same.
(A quick shout out to the genius who taught the class – Thanks Eric!)
@jamie – the frame relay hotspot was a bit different in that my password was Console, and in maybe a few other ways (which 9tut warns about). But everything you need is brought up by show frame-relay map and sh run. Just slow down and reference that and you will do fine. This hotspot is very straight forward and nothing to worry about.
@ Roy
Well done mate π yeah a pass is a pass π
I’m writing on monday, nervous π I’m impressed you managed this without the CBT nuggets, they are tremendously useful …
as for the VTP domain name, it’s in global config ” Switch(config)#’ and the command it
Switch(config)#vtp domain ( then the name)
PVC = Permant Virtual Circuit ( the logical link between you and your destination through a cloud
DLCI = Data Link Connection Identifier ( basically your mac address in frame relay networks, the address you send information to )
LMI = Local Management Interface ( the protocal used to send information between you and your isp
CIR = Committed information rate ( the least amount of bandwidth you are guaranteed )
I know you’ve written the exam but this is just to help anyone else with those terms π
No harm in useful info floating around.
I do realise you got VTP right π im just thinking out allowed ( typing π haha )
@ Jamie you really should not be concerned at wanting to know if IP addresses change or anything of that matter, THEY WILL BE DIFFERENT π You must understand what you doing and how to find addressed and then Reverse Engineer them to understand their subnetting
Soon to be CCNA

Xallax,
Just going over your VCE, EXAM A
an OSPF question
OSPF is configured with it’s default CLASSFUL addressing
WIth all routers and interface operational how many networks will be in the routing table of R1 as learned by OSPF
The answer is 4 ?> you familiar with that question ?
My misunderstanding lies in the idea I simply don’t get it ^_^ …
Firstly if its CLASSFUL then 172.16.anything is class B and therefore 172.16.1.0 and 172.16.2.0 are both in the same network ? so how does that work ? I see they have /24 bit subnet masks which means they are DIFFERENT networks, but in the question the word Classful overrides that isn’t that so ?…
2nd point the question says Learned by OSPF so I gather that excludeds connected networks ??
Please have a look at that question if you need help finding that one let me know, only 20 Q’s in exam A but from what I described you should find it
Much thanx in advance for your time
Aizen
