    Well boys & girls, I passed ICND2 today, but only just – I thought I’d failed.
    Frame relay sim, and loads on OSPF
    No questions on Eigrp and hardly any mention of STP
    Horrible πŸ™

    Hey all, I passed this morning with a 958. Here’s what I remembered from the exam:

    – VTP SIM
    – A question similar to #3 on VTP/VLAN question
    – Similar Qestion to #1 on EIGRP Qestions
    – Similar Qestion to #10 on EIGRP Questions. The route was to the serial connection on R1 attached to R2.
    – Exact question #8 on EIGRP Questions 2
    – The topology from Q.#1/2 on OSPF was used as a simlet. I remember one question asking how would load balancing be done on either the serial links or FastEthernet links on R3/R4. It was asking for the commands and it required 2 answers. Q#2 was part of the simlet. As well as #12.
    – Q.#4 from Operations
    – Q.#5 from Drag n Drop 2

    The rest of the questions came from the newest dump on Exam collections. I wanna thank the author of this site.

    To all, just passed with a 888, thought I did better, but there was a ACL question that I knew I didn’t get just right. Almost every question and every SIMM and every testlet was from here and from the one and only XALLAX, WHO I STILL THINK IS MR. 9TUT himself. Xallax, you have been very kind and helpful and supportive and I thank you. GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU FUTURE CCNA’s…one more thing, do not only count on these dumps to pass because you will eventually fall on your face.

    3rd time to take, meant to re-schedule, forgot and didnt cram like i wanted. F***ing 818 score… needed 7 points… asked soooo many ipv6 questions i wasnt positive about. read all the ipv6 you can.. I did think I was going to do a LOT worse than 818, thought I was in the low 700’s after finishing and seeing soo much I have never seen… I really hate these test with a passion now… trying to go through and write down which q’s i remember seeing.. I’ll post here in a few min after skimming through real quick..

    Passed today with 902
    Here’s what was covered on my exam…

    5 x STP (root switch and designated port on shared segment)
    7 x VLAN encap (all 8021.D no ISL, router subinterfaces, trunking commands)
    4 x Ipv6 (choose valid IP and knowing local link, unique local, unicast global, etc.)
    9 x Routing (general DV/LS, OSPF & EIGRP config, can’t remember any RIP)
    7 x Frame-relay (DLCI,
    6 x ACLs (reordering incorrect ACLs, calculating correct source address on ACL)
    4 x ICND1 type (config password encrypt, last reboot reason)
    1 x IPSec (confidentiality protocol)
    Sim to set VTP domain name, default gateway, and vlan 1 ip address
    2 x Sim to determine frame-relay pvc to IP mappings (sh frame-relay pvc | map)

    Didn’t use a exam dump, just ICND2 book, vue test and this site!
    Study hard and good luck

    keep in mind the link costs. best way to verify them is with “sh spa” and to look at the diagram

    I forgot set my ports’s costs to switches =))
    I am going to check situation with my sets.

    @goodwin
    remember to save the running-config after setting the switch to be root bridge πŸ™‚

  23. Goodwin
    March 15th, 2012

    @xallax
    I’ve checked situation with my sets – nothing changed!
    I’ve changed ports’s costs to another value – nothing changed! All remained the same!
    RP, DP and BP as your example (when we use standard costs).
    I concluded that PT cannot work with ports’s costs which are different from the standard cost (19, 4, 2, 100 etc.)

    That’s it!

  24. xallax
    March 15th, 2012

    @goodwin
    just for practice, i set the speed on Sw1’s Fa0/3 to 10 mbit (cost 100) and it turned to alternate as you intended…

  25. Goodwin
    March 16th, 2012

    @xallax
    How you set cost 100 ? My PT requires that port’s cost must be multiple of 16!

  26. xallax
    March 16th, 2012

    @goodwin
    i set the speed and it gets the cost based on it.

    Switch(config-if)#speed ?
    10 Force 10 Mbps operation
    100 Force 100 Mbps operation
    auto Enable AUTO speed configuration

    how did you set costs?

  27. Goodwin
    March 16th, 2012

    @xallax
    Switch(config-if)# spanning-tree vlan 1 port-priority 16 (or 32)

  28. Goodwin
    March 16th, 2012

    @xallax
    I don’t doubt that all works properly with standard costs.
    Could you try to test with non-standard cost (using command which I mentioned above)?

  29. xallax
    March 16th, 2012

    @goodwin
    that command is used to set the priorities for individual interfaces on switches.
    i read a bit here on it: http://www.techexams.net/forums/ccna-ccent/26363-spanning-tree-port-priority.html
    yes, you could tweak a bit the elected ports, but in the end it doesnt affect the root bridge, just the individual switches

    i dont believe there’s a way to use custom costs and why would you want to do so? the link speeds are standard and those are used to calculate the costs afaik

    anyway, nice topic πŸ˜€

  30. Goodwin
    March 16th, 2012

    @xallax
    Just for test=) Yes, standard costs is used in real life but one must check out!
    I think non-standard costs works in GNS3, e. g. but I cannot work as yet with this emulator.
    Anyway, thank you=)

    passed yesterday with 860, sat my pt 1 back in jan but didn’t know about this site back then. Yesterday I had frame relay and vtp sim, ospf simlet, some multi choice stuff not on here, some ipv6 q’s and a few drag n drops. Hello. I’ve detected that PT incorrect handles following situation with VLANs: e.g
    there are three switches: SW1, SW2, SW3.
    SW1 is connected to SW2, SW2 is connected to SW3.
    SW2 is situated between SW1 and SW3.
    Connections between switches are trunks.
    I created VLANs 10 and 20 on SW1 and SW3 but I didn’t create these VLANs on SW2 (I didn’t create anything VLANs on this switch!)
    Ping between same VLANs is exist!

    Hi Guys,
    I just passed with 888 – probably could’ve/should’ve been higher. I worked off a brain dump from the leading exam prep guys (I think we all know who I’m referring to!!) but only dipped into this site from time to time.
    My recommendation is to know the braindumps inside out but also to know this site inside out(especially the q.s that people say they encountered in the exam). 3 questions that weren’t on the braindump, but were on the exam are to be found on this site – thank god I’d encountered them before because they were Sims and they were quite difficult!!
    Also, Cisoc/vue are changing the order of the multiple choice answers – this could cause issues if some one has learned them by order (but who in their right mind would do that!!!!) Just beware of this!!!
    Thanks for all the help guys, this is a brilliant resource!!

    I have the exam this Wednesday. I feel I am ready. Studied Wendell Odom’s ICND2 book very hard as well as all of CBT Nuggets. Practisied with How 2 Pass and Boson. Own the CCNA Flash Card book as well as the CCNA Portable Command Guide. Occasionally reference Lammle’s book too. Found this site to be very good but there is no doubt you need to put the work into understand the concepts. I have really enjoyed learning the CCNA topics, it opens your mind to what goes really goes on in networks.

    April 2nd, 2012

    hello everyone,

    passed my ICND2 exam today with 916. This dumb is valid but take note the order is not in correct order, so please do not memories the answers in any form of order.

    Take note there are 2 multiple choice questions that came out base on Frame Relay and OSPF which is not inside the dumb. You will require to perform some show commands (for frame relay) for OSPF will require to view the topology and answer accordingly. the sim question was VTP configurations which is the same from lab sim.

    All in all, if you have study the dumb and try out those lab sim you should be able to pass easily – just remember to put some effort in understanding subnetting/frame relay/VTP/NAT/EIGRP and OSFP

    cheers

    Just completed ICND2, cleared with a 944. 43 questions, 75 mins and pass of 825 required.

    The information on this site is superb. Lots of questions appeared on this site, similar but re-hashed with different IP information, reworded etc. Had the VTP sim, Frame-relay & OSPF hotspot, trunking protocols, RSTP features, link state protocol and distance vector features, ACL drag and drop, VLSM drag and drop. Know everything from the CCNA site as well as a few questions appeared.

    One question I had not seen before was something like, “how can you enable logging to a remote location through the IOS” based on the choices I made an educated guess at terminal monitor and snmp-server enable (this is not the complete command but I cant remember it, the other options did not make much sense to me)

    Another was the order of an ACL to deny the first user in a subnet first then all other users. The permit all was the last in list and there is only one option to select that has the permit all as last.

    Good luck to everyone on their future certifications.

    @xexes
    icnd1+icnd2 means twice as much time because there are 2 exams to pass.
    you lose less money if you do fail.
    you have less topics to cover for each exam.

    ccna means you get the certification after just 1 exam. choose this path if you are very well prepared

    @Anonymous,

    congrats on passing the ICND1, if you know the CCNA and the ICND2 site inside out, know the concepts, not just memorizing the answers, then you will have no problems. keep practicing your subnetting and VLSM subnetting. Best of luck.

    My ICND 2 exam is next Friday and I had already failed once πŸ™

    Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

    @tsport

    Whatever works for you. I used the cbt nugget videos, cisco press book and packet tracer for working on the IOS and of course 9tut.com. The information on the ICND2 and the CCNA site was enough to help me pass. If you are not confident going into the exam on Friday, you can reschedule up to 24 hrs before the exam time.

    And really sorry to be such a newbie, but when you guys are referring to ‘dumps’, what exactly are you talking about? Do you mean the VCE files?

    @TSPORT

    dude reschedule again for 2 weeks
    and study this site all of the icnd2 and the icnd1 stuff.
    Believe me 9tut.com has it all covered. You dont have to buy
    anything from anyone because you have all you need from this site
    for free. And you have the advice and support of the group. if you are
    not sure you are ready, then you are probably not. and no miracle answers are
    going to help you. You have to really know this stuff. So save yourself the stress
    and the money and reschedule.

    Which vce file will you be going over to practice. Please post here. I didnt find any credible files, Answers seems to be incorrect on most of those vce files.

    @xexes
    it is shuffled, obvious.
    do not memorize the answers, try to learn how to answer the questions on your own

    Passed the exam yesterday.

    A lot of questions are not from here. Sigh~
    Make sure you are well prepared and understand all the concepts and theories before sit for the exam. Don’t depend so much on the dumps.
    Anyway, luckily there is a vtp sim in my exam.

    Good luck for those who are going for the exam.

    Hello. Welcome back!
    I am very confused with STP and etc..
    All books describe the election designated ports (DP) and blocked ports (BP) in different ways.
    So, how we determine DP in each segments:

    1) Comparison of port costs of switches. E.g. if SW1 has lower cost to Root switch than SW2 then SW1’s port became DP and SW2’s port became BP. Is it right?

    2) Comparison of MAC-addresses of switches. E.g. if SW1’s MAC is lower than MAC of SW2 then SW1’s port became DP. Is it right?

    3) If MAC of SW1 is lower than MAC of SW2 but(!) SW1’s cost to Root is bigger than SW2’s cost to Root, which port will become DP and which will BP?

    4) If costs to Root are equal then switch with lower MAC will be Designated switch for segment. It is clear.

    Please, answer point by point.

    When we work with PVST and RSTP, which algorithm should be used?
    1) Election Root bridge
    2) election RP for non-root bridges. Port which has lower path cost to Root will become RP.
    3) election DP for each segment.

    3.1) if we have a segment where there are port of Root bridge and port of bridge which non-Root port (!!) for this segment, then this port will become BP. Is it right? I think I am right.

    3.2) What should guide us in selecting a designated port in the segment? MAC-addresses of bridges? Their costs to Root bridge? What is a higher priority in the selection?

    Please, answer me – Is there any difference in the selection of designated ports for the two protocols – STP and RSTP? As I understood BP in STP is synonym AP in RSTP? is it right?

    Please, pay patience=)
    What is a “port-priority” command? What does it do?
    As I know, if two ports (fa0/1 and fa0/2 e.g.) of switch have equal cost to Root then port with lowest port-number will become DP and other port will become BP.
    But, if I want that fa0/2 will become DP without changing the cost value (!), can I use port-priority command?
    I tried to use this command in Packet Tracer but it was unsuccessful efforts – fa0/1 always remains DP.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thank God. Passed the CCNA exam today with a score of 920 [messed up in labs :(]. 100% from jericho dumps and 9tut extended ACL, VTP/VLAN and EIGRPLabs. thanx 9tut.

    @goodwin
    electing the root bridge:
    1) switch with lowest priority becomes root bridge. priority value is a multiple of 4096 (32768 by default). the best priority (the lowest) is 4096
    2) if some switches have the same lowest priority value then the switch with the lowest MAC address becomes root bridge

    now regarding ports…

    port with smaller cost to the root bridge becomes root port (RP). you are correct.

    if there are 2 ports from the same switch on the same segment then the one with the lowest interface id becomes DP, the other becomes BP (as you said). example: fa0/1 becomes RP, fa0/5 becomes BP.

    one last thing… regarding AP and BP…
    “* Alternate port – A best alternate path to the root bridge. This path is different than using the root port. The alternative port moves to the forwarding state if there is a failure on the designated port for the segment.
    * Backup port – A backup/redundant path to a segment where another bridge port already connects. The backup port applies only when a single switch has two links to the same segment (collision domain). To have two links to the same collision domain, the switch must be attached to a hub.”
