    I learned all the ones for the INC2 topic areas, not just those under ICND2. No point in taking a risk is there?

    Passed. I got the frame relay question that Matty had and the new VTP sim. I had some questions from the dumps but I would say max like 30% . I would not of passed this exam if I had not read odems book cover to cover. Thanks for all the help guys and good luck to everyone else!

    I am still doing some things before I take my exam.
    start of november and I’ll be doing it as I said in my far previous posts.
    @matty: I really like it that you’re still around here and I”m really glad your posts help people pass the exam, you’re really devoted 🙂

    ofcourse I have your file and I’m going to check it carefully.
    I think passguide.com has updated the icnd2 exam but I am not planing to buy it.
    thank you anyway

    @dude

    Waiting on you to pass mate. Tell us the good news soon.
    Hey have you thought about CCNA Security.
    What’s the go with this…if you become a CCNA Security does it renew your CCNA to a further 3 years?

    @ matty
    yea it does…go voice thats where $$$ is trust me brotha

  10. Matty
    October 23rd, 2010

    @Donut,

    So if I do CCNA Voice next year, I automatically get renewal on my CCNA for another 3 years. Can you confirm this please with a link as I cannot seem to find this anywhere??

    Yea, CCNA VOICE looks good but can I practice this on GNS3 or will I need to buy lab equipment. How much does lab equipment cost and will I be able to use SIP on it for my skype so money is not wasted?

  11. Izzy
    October 23rd, 2010

    @Matty,

    Passing a higher level certification automatically renews your lower level certs. So yes, passing CCNA Wireless, Security, or Voice will renew your CCNA.

    Cisco’s certs is more like a ladder; get a higher cert, don’t have to worry about the lower ones anymore. Read the “Career Certifications” tab in the link below; it tells you how to “renew” your certs.

    Took my exam at 2pm Central time and failed today with a 771/1000.

    Had the same stuff Matty had except some were worded a little differently.

    I jacked up on my second SIM, Nailed the first one but the second one I would get a bad command error and it seems when I hit the enter button to page down from a show frame-relay map command my information would disappear like something was wrong with the VM.

    I had VTP, NAT and Frame Relay.

    Sucks ass but I’m gonna hit it again next Friday the 29th.
    Staying inside the house until I take my exam and pass that bitch.

    Wanted it so badly and what makes it worse is it is not a really hard exam, Matty nailed what was on his test and the material looked so familiar that when I saw my score I wanted to throw up to put it lightly.

    Just plain pissed at myself, Gonna do some more command line stuff and go over Matty’s material, 9tut, and the stuff you guys say.

    Good luck to all

  13. Matty
    October 23rd, 2010

    @Izzy,

    Hi Izzy,

    As far as I understand CCNA voice is not a higher level certification but at the same LEAGUE as CCNA but a specialization of its kind. CCNP however would be classed as a higher level certification.
    From what I read they say you must recertify your CCNA wireless, just like you recertify your CCNA.
    The link you provided doesn’t explain this.

  14. Matty
    October 23rd, 2010

    @Izzy and @Donut,

    You guys are right, I read this information now –

    http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le2/le0/le9/learning_certification_type_home.html

    “CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, pass the ICND2 exam, or pass the current CCNA exam, or pass a CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, security, voice), or pass the current CCDA exam, or pass any 642 – XXX professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam.”

    Now my main question still remains unanswered 🙁

    What equipment etc. will I need to pass the VOICE or SECURITY exam. Is GNS3 enough? If not, the equipment I buy, can it have any use to me outside of this course and how much is it gonna cost?? For ex. can I use the CISCO IP Phone as a SKYPE SIP phone?

    October 23rd, 2010

    @Matty,

    GNS3 is good for the CCNA, but eventually you’ll need to purchase real CISCO equipment, try Ebay.

    I haven’t looked into CCNA Voice, but I took the CCNA Security training and it focuses a lot on the SDM. That’s why you’ll need real equipment; so you can use the SDM, or you could download the SDM demo:

    @Anyone
    Can someone show me the logic in working this Question out Quickly.
    Which three IP addresses can be assigned to hosts if the subnet mask is /27 and subnet zero is usable? Choose 3
    A 10.15.32.17
    B 17.15.66.128
    C 66.55.128.1
    D 135.1.64.34
    E 129.33.192.192
    F 192.168.5.63
    Answer ACD

    Thanks

  21. ImpI
    October 23rd, 2010

    I know it’s a rookie question, it’s the “Subnet zero is usable” part of the question is confusing me!

  22. ImpI
    October 23rd, 2010

    Ignor me I’m all over it now.

  23. Izzy
    October 23rd, 2010

    @ImpI

    /27 as subnet mask = 255.255.255.224
    /27 in binary = 11111111.11111111.11111111.11100000

    Concentrate on the last octet ( 11100000 )

    Place each bit in the correct position:
    128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
    1 1 1 0 0 0 0 0

    Notice that the last bit turn on (1) is under the 32 position. This means that the subnetted networks can increase in increments of 32.

    The network ranges are:
    0-31, 32-63, 64-95, 96-127, 128-159, 160-191, 192-223, 224-255

    The hosts can have IP addresses inside the ranges. The first and last IP in the range are the Network ID and the Broadcast address respectively and thus are not valid host IP addresses.

    A) 10.15.32.17 = (.17) is in the 0-31 range and is not the Network ID or the Broadcast address, it’s a valid host address.
    B) 17.15.66.128 = (.128) is the first IP in the 128-159 range so it is the Network ID
    C) 66.55.128.1 = (.1) is in the 0-31 rangerange and is not the Network ID or the Broadcast address, it’s a valid host address.
    D) 135.1.64.34 = (.34) is in the 32-63 range and is not the Network ID or the Broadcast address, it’s a valid host address.
    E) 192.168.5.63 = (.63) is the last IP in the range 32-63 so it’s the Broadcast address.

    I hope I explained it right, sorry if I didn’t. Subnetting is very important so make sure you have this down cold or you’ll risk missing half the questions.

  24. Izzy
    October 23rd, 2010

    @wndash

    Rip:
    sends frequent updates
    less complex configurations
    sesceptible to routing loops
    exchange full routing table in updates

    OSPF:
    fast convergence
    uses only event-triggered updates
    same topology information held by all routers
    requires more memory and processor power

    October 24th, 2010

    October 25th, 2010

    @GRiN

    thanks for that

  35. dude
    October 25th, 2010

    To make GRiN’s post more clear I’m add this.
    the router will always forward packets through more specific subnet mask.
    example: if a router had two routes in it’s routing table that looks like this:
    192.168.1.0/24
    192.168.1.0/30

    as router receives the route for 192.168.1.2 for example it will use the 192.168.1.0/30 route to forward that packet because it is more specific.

    so always remember the more specific route is chosen by routers to forward traffic.
    best of luck

    Subnetting is the one thing I can do pretty well, as I do it all the time every day at work.

    I dont do it in binary, thats too long, I do it mostly in my head. I just know what they count up in.

    For example, /28 is counting up in 16s, so its just a case of adding them up, and working out which are broadcast and network. Easy really.

  37. Fail
    October 25th, 2010

    @ matty
    I read 2 CCNA books
    I half memorized the learning cisco website
    I spent countless hours working on packet tracer
    I watched the CBTnuggets videos 3 times (or more) each

    I looked at dumps to get familiar with the testing style, not the questions.

    The main point of my comment was that I spent an obscene amount of time working on ppp/frame relay and nat, none of which appeared on my test. At all. I wanted to share this.

    I also looked up most of the questions I could remember, most I missed because I was nervous and stupid and found I miss read questions.

    I have picked up yet another book and another lab book and plan to retake on th 17th.

  38. Izzy
    October 25th, 2010

    @Matty,

    I have access to real equipment at work (1700, 2600, 2800, 3500, 2900), so I haven’t purchased equipment yet.

    Go to this link to see what it takes to build the best home lab 🙂
    http://smorris.uber-geek.net/lab.htm

    CBT Nuggets is still working on the new videos for new changes Cisco made to the cert track, but you can use the old videos and work alongside the trainer with GNS3. After that, either buy your own equipment or rent a rack for a few hours/days; option 2 may be cheaper.

    Hey folks, got her due to google search of kyword” passed icn2″. So i did passed icnd2 today with score of 932/1000. This was m second attempt. For the first attempt , i could only do 29 questions as time ran out and got 720. For guys who are going for exam “TIME MANAGEMENT” is very very important. I was disappointed initially as i did read cisco press books inside out, went thorugh cisco exploration ,cbt nuggets. Bu i knew tht i didnt failed due to knowldge scarce but poor time management. This time as i knew all my stuff, i just concentrated on dumps. I got atleast if not more, 65% questions from them. Please first be an expert in the course and then FOR SURE go through dumps as they help you s well. Hope this helps.

  41. dude
    October 26th, 2010

    @newbee: what dumps did u use?

  42. Ray
    October 26th, 2010

    I got an 825 yesterday.

    I ran out of time on question 37 doing a VTP sim; I had to do like 6 things (give vlan 1 the last ip in the subnet, assign a default gateway, put the switch in the right VTP domain, make it a VTP client, and I forgot the rest since I ran out of time in the middle of this lab).

    I got frame relay simlet where I had to figure out the DLCI for several locations. This one is easy, but I spaced out. The equipment is already setup, you just have to know where to get the info they want, remember “#show frame-relay map”.

    A lot of my questions were in that document Matty put together in page 5, but I only memorized like 3 of them. Otherwise I could’ve easily gotten above a 900.

  43. ash
    October 26th, 2010

    passed icnd2….
    I was using CBT Nuggets (awesome Jeremy definitely need to redo his OSPF + EIGRP part adding some more details), CiscoPress book, Boson (I made my own tiny labs for every chapter Routing, STP, VTP, WANS), some old Cisco equipment – two used switches and a router + practice questions on Cisco Learning Network

    30% was from Matty’s docs, 30% from Acme + VTP, FrameRelay, OSPF sims.

    note – ip addressing on VTP sim and on most of my questions was totally different, so make sure you can subnet VLSM/wildcard in 20 seconds or less before you go there

  44. EmDubyoo
    October 27th, 2010

    If you are learning questions, make sure you understand subnetting. Don’t learn the answers, it won’t help you one bit when they change the IP addresses or subnets on the question, and will make you look like an idiot!

    Tell me again please, which ID will router have if it have 2 loopback interfaces and ip address on eth0 is higher than lo ip. It will be highest loopback ip, right?

  46. gillman
    October 28th, 2010

    It always takes the highest loopback interface first. If it only has one loopback it will take that, if it has no loopback it takes the highest physical ip interface address

    Looking at the OSPF new Simlet, question 3. My answer there would of been 1 Network in routing table, because you dont advertise ospf out the isp interface and the rest of the networks are all directly connected except for the 10.5.1.3 network…. Anyone else think this or am I wrong??

    Alright just passed my icnd2 exam 851 ,a lot of stuff that matty posted was in there the vtp lab and ospf simlet were there. Best of luck to you all..

  56. Alex
    October 29th, 2010

    Finally, I passed with 932.
    Got standard VTP lab, OSPF and Frame Relay Simlets.
    Questions were completely different from my first attempt. I think 11-12 questions were new for me. Most questions were from Acme dump. One question about type of device with a lot of mac-addresses I saw in large Test king dump. 2 questions I saw in pass4shure dump.
    It may be strange, but in my first attempt I scored only 33% in NAT ACL section. In this attempt I think 40% of ALL questions were about NAT and ACL. This time I made it all right with luck of course.
    Only 3 questions about ip addressing: one drag and drop for subnets, one to determine wrong subnet mask and one to calculate summarized address and netmask.
    Got 5 drag and drops from Acme, only one new about security. Very easy.
    Got only one question which I have no idea how to answer: multiple choices about disadvantages of link state protocol. Never seen it before. All answer formulations were similar and I’m not native English speaker – so I lost myself in this formulations.
    My first attempt was on beginning of October. I have only this week for real preparations, because I left my job. It was deployment/release engineer in banking software development, very very nervous job. Now I will have a rest for few weeks and begin looking for new job. Hope CCNA and MCITP certs will make it easer for me.
    In my preparations I used: Net Bosson Simulator, Train Signal films (both ICND1 and 2 – downloaded from Russian torrent tracker), Acme dump and shared experience of this forum:)

    Thank you all guys for help and owners of this forum for opportunity to exchange our experience here.

    October 29th, 2010

    @Alex

    Thanks for the feedback going for my 2nd attempt next week.
    Seems like there’s no new SIM for retake *hopefully*
    I fair badly in the Implement and Verify WAN links section 43%
    My ACL and NAT score 67%
    Guess most likely will be pump with lots of question on implement and verify WAN links….

    Thanks for sharing the info bro.

  58. Alex
    October 29th, 2010

    @Chris You are welcome
    I’ve found 2 questions from testking 999 dump. Numbers 70 and 834
    I have 2 activations left of pass4sure 640-816. I thinks there are 3-4 questions from this dump which are not in Acme (again, i have ~25 questions from acme, so you have to know all this dump – it will give your a time to think on new questions). So pass4sure may be useful some way.
    I don’t need pass4shure any more so I can give you one activation if you need it (for free of course:))

    I got the same lab sim as Ray above… new switch in the network, configure domain name, set to client, set up default gateway IP address and give the switch an IP address to use… (last part im iffy on) I feel like im screwing up the default gateway IP and the IP address part… domain name and client are easy… if anyone else has taken this… what commands do I get those pieces of info. I used the same default gateway as the properly configured switch, and an IP address that was 1 less than the ip address for VLAN 1 on the properly configured switch. Ideas????

    This is the second time ive gotten a 784 and getting frustrated.

  61. Alex
    October 29th, 2010

    @ARG
    Ip adress of configured swith is like 192.168.100.66 255.255.255.224.
    Gateway is 192.168.100.65
    So ip of new switch must be 192.168.100.67. It first usable IP adress.

    One more note:

    I received an email from Pass4 Sure this morning saying that they updated their exams.

    I went to the site because I had already purchased their material back in September, so I upgraded my test engine with the new exams and they are the same thing that Exam Collections has had on their site for a month now.

    You purchase Exam Collections engine for $20 and download all the exams you want for life.

    Since I failed my ICND 2 I sent P4S my refund form completely filled out and have been fighting with them on my refund.

    Go somewhere other than P4S if you need exam material, they are a crook.

    Good luck to all on your exams coming up.

    Hi Guys, just failed icnd2 with 780. I go the sim where you have to config a new switch with an IP, GW and VTP client. Problem I had was the console was connected to the existing switch and I coudn’t connect to the switch they want configuring – _210. Please tell me where I went wrong with it, as with time pressing I ended up leaving it. Was it a ‘drag the console connection to the other switch’? or some comand line from the connected switch I have forgot about. Gutted as i would have answered easily – and I know in my resit I’ll get more difficult ones!

    Did you click on the terminal pc? This sim was easy but there is a bug vlan 1 never get the status on , but I passed this section with 100% so it must be right.

    Guys passed ICND2 today…….just with 865.

    Got VTP/VALAN1, FR & OSPF.

    To be honest I’m a bit disappointed with my score as I found the exam easier than ICND1 (95%) but I should not complain as a pass is a pass.
    Don’t ask me what dumps to use because I did not use any!!

    I messed up my VTP/VALAN1 lab….got asked to assign sw2 as last available host in the Management domain….
    Sw1 config had VAN 1 configured at .89/26
    Ip default was .61
    I got confused as they are in different subnets.
    So which one is the management VLAN??????(in the end I tried both and off course the first IP I entered was wrong)
    Not to mention I could not spell…… I dread to think what data looked like form the output of my commands I mean I even spelled ‘terminal’ wrong.
    That’s what you get for not doing any practice on Virtual labs!!

    Must have spent 15 mins on this lab, all about the panic……
    Should take 5 max!!

    I get the same Lab last week in my ICND2 attempt, configuring a new switch with default gateway, ip, vtp client, and trunk inter switch port. The only not clear point is on how to get default-gateway on working switch as show running was disabled and show ip default-gateway didn’t work. Do you know how to collect the default gateway on the working switch?

    The PC had a console connection to the first switch (so I did the show commands etc to get the info) but there was nothing connected to the second switch (except the trunk connection) so I couldnt connect to it to do anything! In hindsight I thought it may have been a case of dragging the console cable or PC to the other switch – or a bug on my test. I’d like to know as if there is a way of configuring via the first switch I have forgotten it

    “show run” is not work in global config mode. It work in privilege mode.

    November 1st, 2010

    @DavePegs there is no way to configure second switch from first console. It must be bug or you just do something wrong.
    On my first attempt I got error in setting ip address of second switch – wrong subnet or etc.
    So I first set it up with mask 255.255.255.0 and then changed it to 255.255.255.224

    I took the test today and passed 851. Matty’s stuff is good %70, but you need to know the stuff and be prepared. If you memorize the questions you are bound to fail. One experience to share is that, all questions will tell you how many answers you will need to answer, but not all. One question asked me “what configurations needed for the switch and the router but did not say two answer is required which I did and got the points for that question. The question was a switch connected to a router with multiple vlans and one answer was to configure sub interfaces in the router and the switch was the trunk port configuration.

    Good luck to all. 9tut community is great networking. make sure you reed the last comments on this web site before you take the test.
    Best,

    Hi Guys
    I Passed with 865 on my second attempt with two minutes to spare. On my first attempt I scored 524 and found time to be the enemy. I was rubbish behind the command line and I had holes in my logic.
    I know this has been repeated quite a bit on this forum already. Do not rely on Dumps and memory recall alone! The CCNA today is not an entry level certification. Cisco wants you to have a sound understanding of its systems.

    Here are some helpful tips from my experience!! I have been telling myself this daily for the last two weeks! “If your logical understanding is bullet proof you can work anything out with time on your hands”.
    You can’t have any big holes in your logical understanding of the topics, Cisco words questions in a way to really test your understanding of the topic.

    When working through the questions on Acme and Mashti (I found Acme very helpful) know why the other options were wrong, granted some of the answers are made up but even understanding that will improve your logical understanding.

    Acme and Mashti are helpful in exposing the holes in your logic (Use the filters) and Odom / 9tut are very good at closing these holes. I did go over Odom cover to cover and then found it very helpful as a reference point for any question and answers I didn’t fully understand from Acme and Mashti.
    I found sub netting could at times be quite time consuming. If you are not already doing this already or have another method I found it saved me loads of time on the exam. When you sit down to study (For practice) and for the exam dump this to paper from memory. Yes there is a little understanding around it. Odoms book can help you with this.
    128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
    /25 /26 /27 /28 /29 /30 /31 /32
    .128 .192 .224 .240 .248 .252 .254 .255

    Remember recall memory can and does become distorted under pressure so do this before you start each study session and when you sit down in the testing centre. I did this while I was fumbling through the tutorial.

    Matty your doc was priceless. I only looked at it on Friday and I booked my exam 5 minutes later. I had some but mostly variations of the ones you posted.

    All the best guys and thanks for all the help.

    @DavePegs

    The same thing happened to me and I thought there was a bug too, only I typed the commands in its entirety. ex. show running-configuration (I got a bad command for this)

    Then when I went to sh run, it worked, but when I hit the Enter button to scroll down through the output it disappeared

    I was so pissed, had I passed that one SIM I know I would have had enough points to pass.

    There are definitely bugs in the VM’s, and who do you tell? I called Cisco and they said I would have to contact Cisco Networking Academy, then when I did that I was told to tell my instructor because he can log into Cisco and send a message directly to him regarding my exam, so I did, then my instructor said he don’t know anything about it and that I need to contact Cisco.

    Good luck.

    I just need to pass this damn thing so I dont need to worry about it for another 3 years.

    Thanks to all who contributed to this forum, and thanks 9tut for keeping this site running.

    I will let you all know how I do come this Thursday pass or fail, and what I had on my exam.

    Hey,

    Well, my bad. For some reason it seems Malwarebytes was blocking the 9tut.com site, which is odd b/c I have been using it consistently for months on end and all of a sudden it gets blocked.

    I was clued in to it being me after you posted and I went to ping and tracert to your resolved IP and it gave me a ‘General Failure’ error response. This usually indicates a local problem and sure enough it was Malwarebytes blocking your site.

    Thanks for the heads up!

    @Jason

    I used Test-king and Matty’s doc. Like I said before, you will need to understand the concept.
    The VTP SIM asked me the last available IP address as opposed to the first IP address like some people said on this web site, but the trick is, the last one or the first one is taken by the other switch and you will need to take the one before or after that. Study these two and you will be fine. unless they change the questions again. I wouldn’t wait for too long, since these are valid now…

    Best,
    Marco

    Sorry guys – tomorrow i’ll give the icnd2 exam. I’m feeling quite ready.
    Just a question… i’m not sure i correctly understand some post.

    In simlet, if i make a typo in a command like

    show cFp neighbors (instead of cdp, of course)

    the typo will count as an error????

    November 3rd, 2010

    Hey I nailed it today .. passed smoothly … MATTY: thnx mate .. like 50% of ur questions.
    I had the WAN sim (with frame relay hdlc and ppp) was asked for password which was configured C0nsole in my case.
    show run
    show frame-relay map – pretty easy.
    had the vtp sim – asked for last available ip address – done. (funny though it was the last question) … also had this kinda strange ospf hotspot asked various stuff.
    also I remember a question about ospf: what does ospf use to load-balance traffic
    #conf(if) bandwidth
    #conf(if) cost
    #conf(if) ip ospf cost
    #conf(if) clockrate
    #conf(if) ip ospf distance
    smth like that ( you had to choose two) I personally chose bandwidth and cost ( I am really not sure about that)

    anyway I’m visiting USA soon and I might be off the track for a while guys.

    best of luck

  98. dude
    November 3rd, 2010

    @paglia: lol no it wont count anything if you make a typo.. it would just not recognize the command and you’ll have to redo it obviously.
