hi passed my icnd2 few weeks ago, first chance i have had to say thanks to you 9TUT for this v good web site..your a star!!
i think the best thing for passing your exam is to relax, an network engineer job involves a lot of stress and cisco build their exams to reflect this..Matty had a good sheet a few pages back, the down loadable pkt tracer vtp sim from this web site is good it lets you config the switches, dont rely on dumps, once you have the concept every question can be worked out. i found wendell odoms book very useful and packet tracer fantastic for practice. good luck to all…

For Frame Relay Split Horizon question, I have found the question and answer from Actual Test 1.9, detail is below:

    QUESTION NO: 75
How should a router that is being used in a Frame Relay network be configured to avoid split
horizon issues from preventing routing updates?
    A. Configure a single sub-interface to establish multiple PVC connections to multiple remote router
    interfaces.
    B. Configure a separate sub-interfacefor each PVC with a unique DLCI and subnet assigned to the
    sub-interface.
    C. None of thebove
    D. Configure many sub-interfaces on the same subnet.
    Answer: B

    =========================================================

Also one more from p4s can be seen on Actual Test 1.9

    QUESTION NO: 83
The network administrator of the Oregon router adds the following command to the router
configuration: ip route 192.168.12.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.12.1. What are the results of adding
    this command? (Choose two.)
    A. This route is automatically propagated throughout the entire network.
    B. The command establishes a static route.
    C. Traffic for all networks is forwarded to 172.16.12.1.
    D. Traffic for network 192.168.12.0 is forwarded to 172.16.12.1.
    Answer: B,D

Actually I just saw an explanation from zisco on the top of the page.
I tested the scenario though on PT and routers become neighbors.
My first impression reading the question that a loop will form if internal routers seek public ips.
Zisco sheds some light but Im still confused on why PT will form the neighbor relationship.

    Hi Friends,

Today I passed ICND2 exams with a score of 956/1000 , yahoooooooo, now I am CCNA, and this is all becuase of my two months of continuous efforts,CBT Nuggets, subnettings practice, Mashti/Acme dumps and last but not the least 9tut forum, thank you 9tut

I had 40 questions in exam with same VTP lab, Frame Relay simlet and OSPF simlet.

so lab and simlet were same as we saw here on 9tut, most of the questions were from Actual Test1.9, matty document and Alabama mail

lot of NAT and ACL question(so you should be perfect in ACL/NAT)

almost 8 to 10 question I never saw in any dumps so new questions. I will recall and will share with you

the one I recall now is as follows:

*drag and drop (split horizon, poison reverse and 5 more option which I don’t remember) –I messed up this one
*what advantage of Multipoint Frame relay over point to point?
*where to Apply ACL? want to know where to apply ACL… in or out …there were 3 routers

I will recall more and share with guys tomorrow or day after.

just keep in mind…. about Actualtest1.9, lab and simlets on 9tut.net or 9tut.net forum.

thanks God…and thanks to 9tut forum friend..

starting CCNP – Route tomorrow…I will seen on CCNP-Route forum

    God Bless you all

Sounds like you had the Drag and Drop in mattys doc (revised by someone)
    Left Column (Choices)
    Holddown Timer
    poison reverse
    count to infinity
    lsa
    split horizon

    and right column
-A router learns from its neighbors that route is down, and the router sends updates back to the neighbor with an infinite metric to that route
-the packets flooded when a topology change occurs, causing network routers to update their topological database and recalculate routes
    – this prevents sending information about a route back out the same interface that originally learned aobut the root
-for given period, this cause the router to ignore any updates with poorer metrics to a lost network.

Thanks for getting back to us after your test. Congrats on the CCNA!

Also, could you link to the ospf lab you had? Can someone make a compilation of the latest labs that are out? I am getting confused as to what is new and old. :-\

  27. Cool Guy
    November 23rd, 2010

    @ CL3AN

yes drag and drop was revised there were 8 Choices for match, 5 you already know(Holddown Timer , poison reverse ,count to infinity, lsa
split horizon + 3 more) on the right side …. so read this topic carefully

also OSPF simlet…. the matric question was tricky…. (2 choices) I selected ” ip cost ospf” and “bandwith”) and this option is correct because I got 100% in routing

also for VTP lab tricky part was ..assign first usable IP from the management VLAN

so first switch have ip 206.29.112.129/27 AND default GW 206.29.112.130 so first available IP was 206.29.112.131…thats what I selected/…….. be careful about IP …you might get some other IP …or they can ask about last usable IP….will recall some more..and share later.

    thanks

    question # 88,66,37,34,17,13(similar figure..different NAT question) …honestly read questions od acutaltest1.9

    frame relay simlet :

password for MidEast router ..tricky part. was serial s1/2 to which MidEast Router connected there will be no encapsulation so default is HDLC so I selected answer”No password required” but for confusion ..they put somewhere in Running config..about Mideast Router username MidEast and password cons0le……so correct answer is”No password requied” as MidEast router was using default encapsulation i.e HDLC… thanks

It seems that the Distance Vector Routing Solutions drag and drop may have changed. I believe it has added “Triggered Updates” and “Defining a Maximum” the list of choices.

Defining a Maximum: Set a maximum value, anything beyond this value is considered unreachable and infinity.

  33. Diggi
    November 23rd, 2010

Sorry I fat fingered and hit submit on accident.

Anyway, below are definitions that I found for each as well as one for Counting to Infinity in case the answers changed.

Defining a Maximum: Set a maximum value, anything beyond this value is considered unreachable and infinity.

Triggered update: When a route fails, do not wait for the next periodic update.
Instead, send an immediate triggered update listing the poisoned route.

Count to infinity: A router that keeps changing its minds about the metric of a failed route. The metric grows slowly until it reaches infinity, at which point the routers finally believe that the route has failed.

I am seeing different answers for the same question, just want to find out if anyone knows the correct answer to this one as it seems to currently be on the test:

Question is regarding the OSPF Simlet question, its one of the many questions on the OSPF topology. Question asks “If OSPF is configured using default classful addressing, with all routers and interfaces operationsl, how many networks will be in the routing table of R1 that are indicated to be learned by OSPF?” P2S has this question and they have 4 as the answer. (I’m well aware p4s can be wrong.) The document listed above (Matty’s Doc) has the same question, worded slightly different, but the answer is two. My thought was given the topology is running classless, it would still have 4 entries in the routing table. Does anyone agree with this, and if not can you explain?

    Thanks.

DIGGI can you link to the question you are talking about?

  36. Diggi
    November 24th, 2010

    @ CL3AN

Sorry, I wish I had a link for you. I was just trying to add to what you posted earlier (I will paste the comment below.). I had a drag and drop on the exam with the normal 5 choices as well as 2 others choices. Triggered Updates and Defining a Maximum were the other two that I recall. I am pretty sure that Defining a maximum was one of answers. The answers on the drag and drop were different then the drag and drop on the document Matty made up. I recall Split Horizon being one of the answers, and Poison reverse, however so was Defining a Maximum. I dont remember if Triggered updates was an answer or if it was just on the list of things to choose from… I just hope everyone takes your advice and reads the topic carefully.

“yes drag and drop was revised there were 8 Choices for match, 5 you already know(Holddown Timer , poison reverse ,count to infinity, lsa

Defining a Maximum sounds like a term that would be used to define poison reverse. Poison Reverse set the hop cost to 16 which is the default maximum hops before the loop dies. This term seems wrong since there is already poison reverse to describe the scenario.

CBT Nuggets has a good slide on this on video 13. I copy from my notes:

    Distance vector
    Updates are keepalives
    DV loop prevention
    Maximum distances
    Rip =16 hops max
    Route poisoning
    Sets route to max hop
    Triggered updates
Immediate negate all timers and trigger update
    Split horizon
Tell routers do not send updates back the same way they were advertised. Don’t tell routers about routers they already know about
    Hold down timers

Wont believe any updates for an amount of time. Prevents flapping interfaces from changing routes very fast. 180 seconds by default.

Thanks CL3AN! I think I understand everything now with your help as well as the help from a couple other resources that I will post the links at the bottom of the page (In case people need it). Let me know if what I have below sounds correct to you. I wish knew why I am having such a hard time wrapping my brain around this area.

Defining a maximum hop count is basically the process of saying what infinity will be for a routing protocol. For RIP, 16 is considered infinity.

Route Poisoning is the process of advertising a route as being infinity. So when a network goes down, the router that is attached to that network would advertise that route as being 16 (If it was RIP) even though it may only be on hop 4.

Poison Reverse is just a message that is sent back to router that sent the Route Poison saying that everyone got the advertisement that the network was down.

    November 24th, 2010

Just finished taking the ICND 2 exam a few hours ago. Passed, very excited to have this behind me. I wanted to throw up some info, I am certainly appreciative of the people who have done this previously on this site. Hope this helps someone. I used p4s, they had an update come out on Monday and a lot of the questions matched the test. Granted, there was also a ton of question’s that didn’t match. Matty’s doc is extremely valid, be sure to know this. VTP, FR, OSPF were all on the test. FR & OSPF were exactly like Matty’s. The VTP was a different from anything I had seen, but it was similar to the VTP in Matt’s doc. It requests the last IP address, and the domain name is Central…if you know and understand the basic steps you’ll be fine. (The gateway in my question was 192.168.28.129, assigned address was 192.168.28.158)

For some questions they just added additional parts to the question, be sure to read the questions carefully. There was a question on the typical characteristics of VLAN’s… sorry I can’t remember more details on this question. Be sure to know NAT’s & ACL’s!!! There is a new question where you have an ACL blocking http traffic, you have about 6 IP’s to see if they get denied or pass through the ACL. This question is a drag & drop format. I didn’t know if you list port 80 if that automatically qualifies as http traffic. (This would be something to figure out before taking the exam.)

Regarding the terms discussed above: Defining a Maximum, Route Poisoning, etc… The question I had matched the one in Matty’s doc 100%. No Defining a Maximum mentioned at all.

Thank you 9tut, I won’t have been able to pass without your help!!

I recently just failed the ICND2 on 22 Nov with a 744 (825 was passing) I used studied by watching the cbt nugget videos and then using pass4sure. The pass4sure version that I had expired on the same day of my test. None of the questions that were on the older pass4sure were on the exam. Maybe like 3 or 4 but not exact. I contacted pass4sure and they recently updated the material. I got a free extension and I have been reviewing all day and plan to test on the 29th. I must say that the new material is on the exam. Most of the SIMS that I had were in the new pass4sure and the majority of the drag and drop, subnetting, and questions were all represented in the new version of pass4sure. I have Matty’s doc and I plan to hammer this into my head over the next 4 days and get this test over with. I will reply with my results and if the new pass4sure helped me out. Thanks for the insight on the page. I was really pissed when I failed, and this site gives me hope to decoding the cisco tricks.

hello guys….passed icnd2 today with a score of 91.9%…..wouldnt have passed without the help of this website..9tut…u guys are doing an awesome job…people who are planning to give icnd2 here is what i will recommend:

    > Get your concept clear with OSPF, FRame relay, Eigrp, ACL vlan…..70% question were from the Matty’s document and the Version1.9…..

got the VTP sim, configure the switch as discussed by “siruis”…then there was the ospf sim iscussed in the Mtty’s document right at the end….
Frame relay sim was there from 9tut website
there was a drag and dropped for ACls

i dont remember the ip adrress but it was like this…

    acess-list 100 deny tcp 192.168.8.0 0.0.3.255 any eq 80
then there were two option permitted and denied…..
The trick to solve this is to find the subnet which is
    192.168.8.0 255.255.252.0
    first address 192.168.8.1 192.168.3.254
From the given option u need to find out which address is denied which is permitted….

Their were few questions which were outside the dump. Guys please dont completely rely on dumps…You wont pass doing so….

Get your concepts right……and then go through the dumps….i went through all the question atleast 4 times..this way when u see the same question in the exam..u click the right option without wasting time…..keep your pace..during the exam…

In the end…i would thank 9tut, and all you guys..who religiously contribute and make it easy for all the people appearing for the exam…….

Good luck to all..Next step CCNP 🙂

Hi all got my test tomorrow, hope i pass been studying CBT Nuggets and all the dumps hard over the last month, Anyone got any last minute exam tips or for me? I would really appreciate it, starting to get a little nervous, hope some of the dumps (mattys doc/actual test 1.9) are still valid. As soon as i finish my test tomorrow I will share with you and will try to create a document like matty.

    Thanks

    @All

Its good to see that my input has been helpful to all. Please don’t try to memorize the questions, instead understand the logic. CISCO exams are way harder than Microsoft but at the same time more enjoyable.

    @ Mainy

Don’t get nervous. Get plenty of sleep and DO READ my comments on PAGE-5. If you have studied everything and your concepts are clear, you will pass

Just a quick question am unsure on in the OSPF simlet (in mattys doc & CL3AN doc)… How many networks in the router table show up for OSPF if learned by R1 if default classful addressing is used. Answers – 2,4,7,9,5.

Hello, I just passed the CCNA with a 917. If you want to pass I would recomend getting the latest pass4sure, becuase 90% of the questions were on there, including the sims. The only issue with the latest pass4sure is some of the sims did not have any input for the answers just the correct letter choice. The Sims that I had was the VTP one. The drag and drop that listed Hold down timer, split horizon, route poisioning, LSA, countdown to infinity. All the questions looked exactly as they did in the pass4sure. Another issue I had with pass4sure was that some of the questions seemed wrong, and no input. The latest pass4sure doesn’t save the questions in order, so if you study for the ones you get wrong you have to either skip through the questions or redo the whole section. If anybody still has Matty’s document (which is all listed in the latest pass4sure) please use it. The one question that has 3 circles listing 1 router and 2 switches is the same VTP sim that I had. Basically, log into the 2nd switch, get the default-gateway, IP address of Vlan 1, and VTP domain name. Do the subnetting (mine was out of a .224) and assign the first IP to the VLAN1 of switch 1. Use the same default gateway as SW1 and change the VTP domain name. My VTP mode was already in Server mode, so make sure you know what mode you are in. Perform a no shut on Vlan1 and do a copy run start. Use the show int trunk to insure that you have the connection between the switches set to trunk mode. Also check the port going to the router and make sure it’s not shutdown. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to help out. Just do yourself a favor and get the latest pass4sure, take 3 or 4 days with 4 hours each day and cram it into your head.

    @JIM
could u provide PDFs of latest pass4sure….???

  69. Jim
    November 29th, 2010

I wish I could, but it would take me a long ass time to screen save all 274 questions and put into a PDF. Just suck it up and puchase the Q&A. It’s under $100 and obviously well worth it.

    hahaha True……
So whats questions u got plenty??? OSPF, ACL, Frame relay etc….

  71. Jim
    November 29th, 2010

Yeah, all of the above. Seriously do yourself a favor and get the latest pass4sure. It’s all there. I studied for 7 months. Read the cisco press books, watched the cbt nuggets 6 times over and still failed. Not by much but it just pissed me off. Get the P4S!

    @Mainy

is Actual Test 1.9 and Mattys Doc’s enough? I fear overstudying with the 640-802 dumps and just getting 2 questions for every 300 i go though with the 802 dumps.

I have done Trainsignal and CBT Nuggets 1.9 and mattys and been focusing on weak subjects.

I failed recently with 811. I got tons of NAT and ACL questions that pretty much all followed this template:
there are existing ACLS in place and then someone enters some commands with the same ACL number. They are testing if you know what happens to the existing ACL ie is it overwritten, or added to at the beginning, or added to at the end of the ACL.

    @CL3AN

Study Matty’s Doc and Actual test!

    those stuff are enough!

    @all

please try to have little briefing in concepts.. it will help u to pass!

  77. Mainy
    November 30th, 2010

    @CL3AN

Yes i feel they are enough, as long as you also got a bit of knowledge about the ICND 2 topics you should be fine and you know what SIMS to expect.

today i fail the exam……. same VTP sim , ospf simlet , FR Simlet. Lots of subneting questions.
OSPF questions (Routes maching with route table).

NOt much question comes with Matty doc and actual test.

    ACL (4-5 question)..little confusing.

OSPF questions….. VLAN questions…. (Lots of)
    2- IPv6 questions
1- VPN questions (Select any one type)
    4-STP questions

Please prepare ACL question… Actually it includes wild card which is converted to simple mask….which takes lot of time….

I have get lots n lots of subneting questions….. so practice them a lot……not with a respect of ICND1 but ICND2………

  79. Diggi
    November 30th, 2010

Honabosa, can you elaborate on ACL question?

It really shouldn’t take that much time to do conversion. You just have to subtract from 255.255.255.255.

Mates, just passed today with 865. This was quite a difficult test. About half of the questions were new and I’ve scrubbed multiple resources preparing – everything here at 9tut, Sybex, ExamCram (2008), the official Odom book, latest .vces from the examcram website, etc. I’ll try to remember some of the questions before they slip away, but here’s one (not verbatim):

You have a router that is running RIP, EIGRP and OSPF. You learn a route by way of each routing protocol. Which protocol will be used?
    1. OSPF
    2. EIGRP
    3. RIP
    4. You will load balance between the three
    5. Some other option I don’t remember as it seemed irrelevant.

I was stumped and guessed OSPF. I’ll try to remember some more. There were some obnoxious frame relay questions i wasn’t sure about either.
The only config I had to do was the one with two switches and a router. You could look at the config of the working switch to figure out what vtp domain, default gateway and ip address to use for the other switch.

    @JB

The answer to your question is the EIGRP Route because it has the lowest administrative distance (90)

    OSPF – (110)
    RIP (120)

Passed ICND2 today with 865, failed it about a week ago.

I got the vtp sim, and the frame-relay show (show frame relay map) both are pretty easy not sure about the last question on frame-relay question asking about what password would need to be configured if required.

on to the next one i guess, site was very helpful.

passed today. thank you God, and 9tut for this site.

3 sims VTP,OSPF, and Frame relay

-Frame relay nearly identical to this site just names and addresses changed

-VTP configure last available ip address of the management interface, default gateway, change the VTP mode to client, and set the domain as branch.

-OSPF seen in one of the shared files from this website.

drag and drop had 2: 1)poison reverse, split horizon, LSA, and hold down timer 2) match the ip address/subnet mask to the correct lan.

Other questions: NAT, VTP, OSPF, EIGRP, and many questions on ACL’s.
most of the questions are on 9tut, and matys doc.

2 questions on IPV6 dual stack routing and valid IPV6 addresses.

If you study this site and the info posted it contains 90% of what you will probably see.
